I have the Alpine iPod adapter box - I hope the "Full Speed" works better!

Don't getme wrong, the sound quality is great, and it charges the iPod's battery, but the navigation through the head unit blows. It is MUCH faster to unhook the iPod, find the song you are looking for with the click wheel, then plug it back in.

A little iPod hint for you guys running Alpine... Select "shuffle songs" on the iPod before plugging it in, then you won't have to reset the M.I.X. on the head unit everytime you turn the truck off and on...

I had forgone the Alpine Ai hookup for the same reason and just have it hooked up through the RCA hookup and used a Belkin charge/amp which obviously amplifies the iPod's signal and sound much better than just a charger would.
Also avoid the FM signal connections since why do you want your digital music lowered down to a radio signal?

As far as cases go this one is one of the best and fit the iPod nice and snug.

Anyone have a freeze up yet?
I have twice, today and last week.

Plugged in the earbuds to start it back up after having been off for a few hours, and I saw my vid in the background, but it was dark, could not do a thing.

Last week I turned it on and had a tune preloaded, but it would not play.

Today I pushed the menu and center button together, then I saw the big black Apple sign, and then it turned on after a bit.
Think I will format it tonight, then reload it.
I have heard of them freezing up before.

Better not do it now, I am ready to go on my power walk here at work in a few minutes.

Mine restarted itself twice the first week after Christmas I had it but since then it's been fine and I use mine at least 5 hours a night at work and then gets used an hour or two in the truck.

Good info on resetting

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
The above is what I had to do earlier today, and it worked.

More info here on many more fixes

If it does than that a nice mod but mine just uses the extra cable plus the Belkin charger which disables the iPod's volume control and uses it's preamp with volume control to boost the iPod's kinda weak output signal to better match your HU's.

    Travel charger.
    From the Apple store, $29
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...lm=M9837LL%2FA

    Aftermarket, $5.99
    http://store.eforcity.com/dappipodtc01.html

    You make the call.
The cheaper one even comes with the docking cord, Apple makes you buy another one for $19, or you must use the one that came with your iPod.

I am going to try the cheap one when I get a chance to place an order.

Both my roomates have iPods and theirs are the older 20gb ones from last year and they both came with a wall charger so they gave me one.

So far I've got just over 4000 song files and I have just under 7GB left.

    Attention iPod/iTunes users

There is a new update for both the 'Pod and iTunes.

I import my Outlook Calendar nightly when I hook it up to the PC to charge.
For the first time I imported all of my Outlook Contacts.
My gosh is that cool or what?

Quite often I will be at work and want to email someone from my list on my home PC and I do not have the addresses with me.
Now I have them right in my left shirt pocket, where I keep my iPod duing my whole work day.

I also keep combination numbers to various padlocks I have to open at work.
This truly is an amazing tool.
Hey, it plays tunes and vids too

But really, if you have not tried out some of the other features on it, you are missing out.

I was chatting with a friend who works for Apple and he said to use an AC charger as you main charger instead of the USB connection since you get better battery life and a truly full charge from the wall charger. It's ok to use the USB or a car charger for the most part but using the AC charger is better.

Man i just saw this thread. I have a 5th Gen video. It's a 30 gig black and I love it. It does scratch way too easily but I got a neoprene case for it so it's all good now. I just bought some Shure E3 earbuds and they are incredible. best sounding earbuds i've ever owned. I had the E2's and the ear canals were too big and they killed my ears. The E3's sound and feel a whole lot better.

Those are nice earbuds but a bit steep at $99 but for now the "stock" earbuds actually fit my ears nicely and with my job I don't care if they get beat up a little otherwise my iPod is in my truck.

Has anybody bought the extended warranty for $60? From what I've seen it might not be a bad idea.

    Riddle me this

I formatted this weekend, a program I put on took out some system files when I uninstalled it.

I reinstalled iTunes yestermorning, and when I fired it up my whole library was there.
Is this info stored online on their server?

And I did have to reauthorize my PC to play the tunes I bought from them a month or so back.

I should have deauthorized my PC before the format, but I did not.
The message I got after authorizing this one is I have 2 more to go, then the tunes are locked out of my control.

If you backed up your My Documents folder and you let iTunes consolidate your library regularly, it stores all your music in the My Music folder, and then a list of your library in .xml format (or something like that) in the My Music/iTunes folder. Reinstalling iTunes either didn't overwrite that folder, or you migrated your data back after installing, which overwrote the old one.

I have tunes in three different places Chris.
A few on my external drive, the majority of my old MP3 from the "cough cough" Napster/WinMX days, and the MY Music folder which contains the iTunes store bought tunes and about 3 CDs worth of tunes that iTunes ripped for me.

Yep, the xml file is there
    C:\Documents and Settings\Corey\My Documents\My Music\iTunes

So that is how it knew.
I put all my files back on the PC first before reinstalling iTunes.
I always back up my files once a week to the external.

Next gen Video iPod could have a larger screen, and the wheel built into the screen as a touch wheel.

I like the quote from the aticles feedback area below the article.
