I'm looking to get a new CF card for our digicam - either 1 or 2 GB. I noticed on newegg.com that there is quite a variety in price between respective 1 GB and 2 GB cards. What accounts for the difference? Is more expensive really better?

price is probably for high\regular speed cards...go for the high speed all of hte guys with dSLRs will tell you to.

Have you tried the CF Microdrives, higher capacitys and some good buys on ebay. My daughter uses one in her digicam and I use one in my PDA, although neither of them are supposed to use them they work great.

Randomness

Be careful with microdrives. You won't catch many photographers using them. They're more succeptible to physical damage, they won't work above a certain altitude (~8k feet), and in general, their write speed is much slower. Edit: and with how cheap solid state memory cards are these days, even for high capacity (2, 4, 8 GB), I see no reason to use microdrives...but if that floats your boat, have at it

I'd recommend ordering from B&H Photo, go to their website and, in the Search box, type in "psmars" and it should give you a better price on a lot of items. Last time I checked (last month) this included Sandisk memory cards (which are, IMO, the best). I picked up a few 2GB Ultra II's (~60x) for under $90 each.

Check out Rob Galbraith's site (robgalbraith.com) he has an index of write/read speeds for different cards for different digital bodies. For some cameras, getting the highest speed cards is pointless, since the cameras processor can only write at a certain maximum speed to the card.

The price of the card depends largely on write speed, and to some extent, brand (although prices are way down all across the board.)
