Mounting location for mobile HAM radio?
I have a '99 4Runner, and can't find a good location to mount my ham radio. I have a nice Kenwood that has a remote display, and in my '96 the display mounted nicely in the center, below the ashtray. In my '99, there are a couple accessory electrical outlets there, so that won't work. Can you post pics of CB's or ham radios mounted in your 3rd gen?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Here's where I put my radio in my '91 pickup (different 3rd gen). Not familiar with 3rd gen 4Runner, but maybe this will give you some ideas. On these generation trucks, the rear view mirror is held on by 3 substantial bolts into captured nuts in the ceiling. I cut a piece of aluminum long enough to hold the radio away from the rearview mirror, drilled 3 holes to match the rearview bracket and holes to match my radio bracket. My wires run into the headliner through a hole in the mirror trim plastic, down the right side A-pillar and under the dash.

Dave,
I like it! I'll check out if my 1st gen 4runner mirror mounts are the same.... I want my Yaesu back in the truck - I hate Kenwoods!
911 - if you have a remote display (removable head), why not mount the display on the steering column cover just behind the steering wheel? That is where my Tm-7VA remote display is, with the head unit under the passenger seat.

Finally installed my mobile ham radio yesterday. I mounted the main unit under the driver's seat, and the remote head display into the ashtray area. Mounted the dual-band antenna to the LR cargo window. I like it!

Wait till you run HF in a 3rd gen 4runner. RFI is a real pain, have to ground everthing from the fuel tank to the muffler and put RFI beads on the fuel injectors just to get the noise to a S-1. I'll have to post my pics on here. Kenwood commercial vhf and uhf and Icom 706 for HF. One thing I'll compliment toyota on is they build a dang good alternator.
