Installed Cobra WXSTII in 1st Gen (pic)

last night my dad and i went and bought a Cobra WXSTII, 3' Firestik, 18' Coax, and a mount from the local Pilot. I went ahead and installed the CB in my truck today jsut because i was bored. There wasnt enough wire to run it all the way to the battery so tomorrow we are gonna bring some home from work. Now i have a question onthe back of the Firestik box it says to have atleast 2/3 of the antenna above the top of the vehicle. Should i take back the 3' and get a 4'? If i get the 4' should i also get a spring to help stabilize it? I didnt take any pics of the install, if anyone would like to know how i did it just ask and i let ya now. I only have these two pics.

You just keep copying me (J/K man)

On the antenna, I have a 3' and it works fine. I got it so it wouldn't be above the roof line as I already hit in most parking garages so that's just one less thing to worry about. Here a pic of how I mounted it on the TJM wing (yes, it does rub the fender):

what can i say, its a nice looking 4runner! How did you get the cb to stick out as much as yours does? Mine is very recessed and there is no way to bring it out any farther. Also where did you mount your microphone? I think i am gonna put it on the drivers side panel that the radio and cb are inside of (under the e-brake lever).

I had to trim the opening until it fit in there. I just used a flat file but a Dremel would be quicker (I just didn't want to risk screwing it up and looking like crap). I mounted the mic to the side of the console right under where my right knee is while driving. I don't have a pic right now but if I think of it I'll grab one. It works well, just make sure you have enough room to move the seat and that your knee doesn't hit it. That location seems to work well because it's out of the way and when I need it it's right there (on trail rides I normally just lay the mic over my leg or in the seat anyway).

What did you guys use to mount and support the CB and the radio?? I've got an 84 4Runner and the same CB has you two have. I don't have a stereo yet but plan on putting something in there. Did you use the stock brackets? I don't think I have the stock stuff, what does it look like?

Thanks for the help!

The CB should have a mount screw holes on each side..

Fab up a piece of sheet metal like the OEM radio "bracket" and it should bolt in fine...

Yea, it's got mount screws on the sides. I think my problem is I don't really know what the OEM radio bracket looks like. All three Toyota's I've ever owned have not had radios installed and most of the radio plastic area and metal brackets were not there.

Thanks for the ideas!
