Hi people, new here and a new 4Runner owner as well with "new owner" questions...
I just picked up a '94 and would like to upgrade the factory stereo with a Pioneer HU I've got, but I'm not willing to sacrifice/upgrade the alrm system and would like to integrate it with the new radio, which has "alarm" outputs, but I'm not sure which wires to hook together..., anyone know or have any advice where I could go or who to contact to find out?

I'm confused. I don't own a 4runner, so that maybe why. The only vehicle I've ever experienced that had a radio integrated with the keyless entry is a 96-98 honda civic. So you have an alarm? or just keyless entry?

I have a keyless entry alarm that is integrated with the radio.

This 4Runner is the SR5 model, if that is of any help.

Dunno about the alarm being in the radio, but I have the sticker on my window that says radio will not work if removed from vehicle. I didn't notice anything that appeared to tie to the radio (I don't have the factory alarm though either). See the attached links for the wire colors.

I VERY much doubt that. Pull out your radio, you will likely have 1 antenna plug and 2 other molexs that plug into the back and that should be it. And if you happen to have the amplified toyota system you'd have just one.

The best way to figure it out is to pull the radio out, with nothing else being disconnected, shut the door and try to arm the alarm or unlock the doors. I have NEVER seen ANY toyota incorporate the keyless withthe radio - only 98 honda civics iirc...

OK, I've found out that I've got a "double din" unit that is composed of a "Panasonic" AM/FM-Casstte unit that dates to '92 mounted on top of a "Fujitsu" CD player which actually has 2 antenna leads (one for the power antenna and the other for "???") coming out of the back of it along with a molex that plugs into an amplifier/distribution block with wires that lead off from there.

Otherwise, it does'nt appear that the HU is in any way tied in with the alarm system and that the "theft deterrent system" extends no further than merely disabling the HU if it is removed from the vehicle which would require a trip to a local dealership to reactivate it, thereby discouraging would-be thieves from lifting it.

Anyone with any additional input on this before I undertake my planned weekend project??

The other antenna plug is for the diversity antenna on the back side window. You don't need to hook it up.

Would "'better to track you with my dear' thingie system" translate into "better reception"??
