Question Front Speaker Adapters for 3rd Gen

Assuming Crutchfield allows linking, here's a pic:

Anybody used these front speaker adapters on a 3rd gen 4Runner? They come up under "Installation & Accessories" at Crutchfield when I specify 1998 Toyota 4Runner even though the description says "GM/Jeep Brackets - 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speaker adapter plates". Do they even fit?

They look pretty flimsy, but they're the only ones I've been able to find for my vehicle. Anyone else have a suggestion? Right now I've got 3/4" MDF adapters that I made myself. They're too deep and prevent me from popping on one or two of the door trim clips on.

I've used these from MJM Auto Innovations in my front doors:

I've also used his brackets for my rear doors too.

I've bought from him at least 3 times, buying brackets for my 4Runner and my girlfriend's Lancer. The price is good and you usually receive them in 3 or 4 days.

But yeah, they worked out great. I also have the rear door adapters to fit 5 1/4 speakers too.

He also sells them on ebay and sometimes you can get them for cheaper than on his website.

i am also looking to replace my door speakers..2 in the front and 2 in the back...what kind of speakers did you get to replace your stock ones?? did everything fit back on ok with the new speakers or did you have to modify the interior of the door panel? do you have any pics of your new speakers with the brackets?? thanks!!

does anyone have any suggestion on what type of speakers i should get to replace the 4? I was thinking kappa 62.5i up front and not sure about the back..thanks for the suggestions.

I bought a set of CDT EF61i components from djdilliodon at http://forum.sounddomain.com. He'll give you a great deal and he's really helpful. Plus, CDT speakers sound incredible.

I bought the same exact speakers from him and have them running in my front doors. They are awesome and fit perfectly with those adapters I bought.

As for the rear doors, if you want to get 5 1/4 speakers, you have to make sure the the speaker depth isn't too much. I have CDT CL-5x speakers in the rear. They are a slim model, so they fit fine.

I tried fitting some Infinity 5002i (5 1/4) speakers, but they ran too deep and hit the window when it was down.

Before I had the CDT's. I had some Infinity 6002i's (6/12) in the front and 4002i (4inch) in the rear doors, which fit fine with those adapters.

CLin: I just finished installing my components last weekend, but I didn't take any pictures. I'm thinking I might put some dynamat in my doors this weekend to stop some rattling. If I do, I will take some pictures and post them.

I bought the adapters you linked to a few days ago. I tried to install them tonight but found they are too small. The spacing for the recessed holes that attach to the door was about 1/8" off. Also, the inner diameter of the adapters were around 1/4"-1/2" too small.

I'm thinking they sent me 5 1/4" adapters. Just to clarify, when you installed yours, you didn't have to cut or trim them at all to make them fit, right? I'm guessing the answer is no, because I don't think I could make them work even if I did trim them. They're just too small.

I'm going to email MJM tonight to see what they have to say.

They look just like the ones you posted. They're close, but definitely won't fit. I sent an email to MJM a few minutes ago. I guess I'll just wait and see what they say.
