'99 Highlander owners here's your thread!

I have been reading about speaker sizes all night...I am getting ready to place my order for my sound system and I am replacing everything.

I'm getting 6.5 Kappa Perfect components for the front, I know those will fit.

My question is, if I use the template to make the wooden bracket to convert the rear speakers to 5.25 and put Infinity Kappa 52.7i (5.25") two-way loudspeakers that are 2-1/16" deep...will those fit??? Have any of you highlander owners explored this for done this??

Any advice would be appreciated! As quick as possible too, I hate to rush but I'm afraid the deal that I've been offered will run short when they run out of speakers!

Any help once again!

Thanks,
Fink

Using a template?

I'm worried more about depth...the depth of the speakers I am looking at is 2-3/16", will that fit?

The Blaupunkt Woofers I put in were 2.11" deep. I see no reason for you to have any issues. I used 1/2" MSD for the spacers.

Is MSD the same as MDF?? I can only find 3/4" MDF around here...sounds like they will fit no problem!

Thanks David!

Anybody have an answer about the diff. between MDF and MSD?

Also, the only size the discount site I went to had for the rear speakers was 6.5, has anybody installed 6.5" Infinity's in their rear doors, preferably someone with a '99 Highlander so I can get an idea of whether or not they will fit, I don't mind doing a little trimming if the magnet is too big width wise.

I'm a little worried now...

You could also mod the plastic rear speaker mounts to accomadate 6.5's.

Let us know what you find. I'm contemplating the same set up.

I will, it'll be a while...one set of speakers are backordered so I just told them to ship it as one shipment when they come in.

I'll let you know!

I will get a pick in the am, but I have a set of Alpine Type R 6.5" compnents in my rear doors. I had to cut out some of the pocket, but they fit and look like stock. Honestly, though if you are not keeping your ride until the wheels fall off, put 5 1/4" in the back.

Either way you can put whatever speaker. Your choice. They both work

Nah, I'll be keepin this thing for a long time. Sounds like they should work. Did you make a template to mount them? If so, did you mod the template that was linked to before for a 6.5" speaker?
