4th Gen Head Unit
I tried to get a head unit for my 4th gen a while back, but the people at the store said i couldnt do it because they dont make a conversion for our stereos yet? Does anyone know if this is true, or if they have made one yet? Thanks

a scion hu single-disc costs from anywhere between $70 - $120 and you can find it on ebay or on http://www.scionlife.com in the classifieds ... or post over at toyota-4runner.org and mention that you're looking for one. they also come in 6-disc one which usually run somewhere close to $300 or below.
they have fm, am, CD, and mp3 ... they're also xm-ready and the installation is SOOOOOooo simple. it plugs into the current plugs, works with the steering-wheel controls and dimmer switch, and seriously sounds SOOO much better. just go look around toyota-4runner.org and do a search for "scion" and you'll see all the threads of people talking about how much it improved the sound.
really for the cost and simplicity, it is an amazing deal. i love mine! now if i could just scratch off the word "scion" from it ...

Metra makes a dash kit for the 4th gen so you can replace the factory HU with a single din aftermarket HU. it puts a little pocket under the new HU to fill up the extra room. i think it cost about 20-25 dollars and is pretty easy to install. i can't remember the part number but i know it exists because i have one in my 4th gen.

Yes it does. You have to do a bit of trimming on the sides of the faceplate but it's all hidden. Bud and several Tacos have done it- you can do a search on TTORA but it's a direct plug in from what I understand.
