So I love the 1st gen toyota pick ups but im 6'3 at 15 and I aint slowin down yet. So I can't fit in one without having my knees up to nose. So heres my question. Could you put a 1984 frame and the rear of an extened cab (cut behind the door post),and bolt the frame to an '83 cab and weld the rear of the cab to the '83 cab cut in the same place. Alot of work but I beileve its worth it. Im also planning a 2.7 inline 4,or a 3.4 from a '95 or newer tacoma. Along with an auto with the 3.4,or a manual with the 2.7. I have everything worked out except this any help would be appreciated.

Would just be easier finding an x-cab really. You can swap the bodies if you want to but it would be alot of work. Heres an idea. Cut the bed down and move it, then cut an x-cab section off and put it in the space where the bed was and weld it on..

Or cut the bed down and put an x-cab in.

^^ that would be fine, but he doesn't have any windows, not too practical for people who live in the nw, I know that it's any easy fix, but just one more thing to worry about

to the original poster- just go buy a whole extra-cab and put it on your frame and modify the bed, the bed should be easier to modify than the cab,

I don't know about everyone else, but I had a hard time trying to visualise what you are even talking about

I noticed a major design flaw in that supercab mod that he did. He didn't weld the bed to the cab. So if he gets in a tight spot, and flexs the frame so that even an inch or so of the bed is moved to the left or right of the cab (where the bed wall is visible past the cab) he will rip the top of his cab apart. I maybe wrong considering i've never wheeled a solid frame truck before and don't know if the the construction of the frame will allow it to bend like on a open frame truck. Any input? Also could you have glass made to fit the the cab that he cut? I'd like it to look factory

That was my first thought too. I think to do it "right", you should move the whole bed back the distance of the extension, and weld the whole donor section of cab, frame-to-roof, on to the original cab. I just looks kind of funky, too, having that big bed/cab gap under a solid cab roof.

heres mine i removed the back panel and roof then moved the butt forward and seam welded it to the cab. put a bench seat in the back and the final thing was a custom soft top. turned out prety well if i do say so and well cool in the summer.

Hey monster does it leak when it rains this is going to be a daily driver and i dont need to have to change when i get to school and work lol.

Thats the same route I plan on taking with my single cab. Just haven't found a canopy for the bed yet. How comforatable is the seat in the back being just bolted down without any elevation change for legs?

the rear bench seat is very comfortabe its just a little tight getting in and out and the top keeps the rain out no leaks at all. the people who made it do do car and boat trimming and did an exellant job cost $1300 and some cahnge in your money but well worth it.

Do you just run the soft top or do you have a canopy that you could squeeze in between the exo and internal cages?

i just have the soft top. the internal bar are the frame suports for the top
