9,000 T-Maxx, bought lightly used for the price of a smittybuilt, in less than a year I've come to the conclusion how did I ever do without. Got a Trailgear mount plate, keeps it high and tuched in close. Don't have any other expereince with winches.

Do a google search for moab winch death test (or something like that)

anyone have experience with those smittybilt winches?? I was looking at 4wheelparts and winch depot the new xrc10 winches run about 350. and It has a series wound motor!!!

Warn M8000, no complaints, i didnt install it but ive removed it and replaced it that was easy.

I wanted a drum light, so I picked up a cheap set of sealed white LED driving lights to make sure she spools in smoothly at night



I decided I only needed one (they're bright for what they are), so I took a few minutes and thunk up some mounting options

Ended up hacking an old license plate frame, zip-tied the light to it, then bolted it up behind the bumper using the factory plate holes and carriage bolts








Then I wired it up to the main cut-off switch

im on the third one now 2 solonoids failed after using it one time. the one i have now works good though. warranty is also good. something i dont like on the one i have now is how the power button is where everyone can push it so i just keep the cable disconnected untill i need it.

Warn 8274 here, not mounted yet, but they are the best winch Warn makes IMO. Fastest, most common (can get parts, and there are many mods out there for them). I will be putting it on a reciever mount and eventually wiring up the rear so I can run it on the front or back of the truck. Yeah, it's heavy, but it's worth it to me. I got it for $300 bucks used.

I have one that i think none of you has. It came on my truck when i bought it, it says "Rule" on it, and it is 8,400 lbs. The controller for it is a pain to use, because you have to push the button really hard, and it keeps stopping, and you have to let it go then push it again. The cable is all kinked, but I assume that is the fault of the previous owner. Its pulled me out though, and I recently got towed down the street at 60Km/h, worked fine

I also had a friend with a smittybuilt that wouldn't shut off, and it pulled his hook through the fair lead and would have kept going but he disconnected the battery. My warn 8k has been awesome for me, but i have broken the cable so make sure it stays in good shape and never gets kinked or knotted

If my style of wheeling involved using a winch a lot, I would invest in one of the premium products from Warn. But I rarely use a winch, so my Tabor 9k has served me well. Water got in the control box and took out 2 of the solenoids. Bought a couple new ones from Warn and was on my way.

Might want to consider getting an Albright solenoid pack from SW if you plan on getting wet again (submersible)

Whats a good winch mount for a 91 4runner thats decently priced?

I used an HF channel mount and it served me well on my Cruiser




It's pre-drilled for the winch, cables, fairlead and it's dirt cheap too

Might need some trimming on a runner though
