going with 4crawlers 1.5" bj spacers and a 1" diff drop with some downey coils for the rear with maybe a 1" spacer. anyone have any ideas on what shock to go with to accomodate some good articulation and good handling?

well stock shocks will be fine... they mind hinder full travel of the new setup however if you want longer yuo will need to actually cycle your suspension and measure... www.4crawler.com has a writeup to do this.....

well i was thinking that if i needed to get to that special "sweet spot" and needed more articulation then I would get me some sway bar disconnects but i would want the travel with the shocks to be able to do this. right now i got some monroe sensatracs and they handle pretty good but i look at articulation everyday when i park at work and the shocks are fully extended. i like the bilstein 5100's but all i saw was the ones with 2 eyelets rather than a stud and eyelet.

Go with Bilsteins then. I just did this exact setup (without spacers) on a friends rig. The bils are longer than stock

My Sensa-tracs were about an inch longer than stock and I have been perfectly happy with them.

bils sound good...also looking at doetsch tech's line and a little reading since i found them on downey's site. which bils did you put on your friends ride? also looking at the collapsed length and extended...

so many mods and so little money...im just getting over the mechanical fixes for my mods! went outside this morning and was going to work when i turned the key...click...click....click....click....click...i hope its a loose terminal! i just ordered a taillight to replace the broken one to pass inspection here in virginia along with a new windshield and i just ordered the parts to do the front inner bushing! i see visions of bj spacers and coil springs in my head every night....with shocks...and diff drop...and sway bar disconnects...and...THE LIST GOES ON! so i can feel ya on that one lee...btw how hard was it to put in the manual hubs?

you'll find some additional links on how to measure shock lengths as well as a table listing many of the Rancho 5000 and 9000 shocks with compressed and extended lengths and mounting styles that should aid in finding a shock of the right length. For example, check the shocks you currently have, see if they are too short and if so, by roughly how much. Then measure their compressed and extended length and then find a matching shock that is that much longer. Either go with that unit (in a Rancho shock) or see if another brand shock can cross reference to that Rancho p/n.
