replace shocks or OME kit?

replace shocks or OME kit?
All of my shocks are leaking, so the mechanic says... took it to a mechanic who doesn't specialize in toyota's, but he said all four shocks are bad. Not the coils in the front, just the shocks, or struts. Is that possible?
And, if just the shocks can be replaced, should I get all 4 shocks, at$950, or buy the OME kit at $850? would the kit cover the parts needing to be fixed, is it a good idea, and what "duty " would you reccommend? I want to wheel, but still drive it to work and around. 2 inch lift I hear isn't that bad.
Please let me know what you think.
THANKS!

$950 for 4 shocks??!! What kind of shocks are these?!
I'm guessing that's the price including labor. But honestly, they are not that hard to install. Actually, they were the first mechanical thing I ever did on a car. Find a good writeup online and get a buddy to help you out. Shouldn't take more than a couple hours, even if you're working at a slow pace.
By the way, it'd be super helpful to have more information on your vehicle. Most people place it in their signature line.

That's a RIPOFF. You and a buddy could get them done in no time. I bought two procomp ES3000 for $80 and put them on during my lunch break from work. Screw the mechanic and buy the shocks anywhere else.
Good luck

Thank you both- what shocks would you recommend?
Great advice, i appreciate it. I thought it was really high. So I am better off just getting the shocks huh? I have a 2004 4runner 5-speed V8. Oh yeah one more thing: can I grease the 4th gen. driveshaft? I was told it was sealed.
What shocks would you recommend for this truck? im at like 4500 pounds. looking to hit on my truck a little and not have it break, but still be able to ride it to work and take it on a road trip.
You guys rock! I am lucky to have found a site, but more importantly lucky to find some people that know about toyota's. I live in Colorado, and just moved here a few months ago, so knowing anyone or the right people is tough. Thanks for looking out!
Ill get the info on my truk in my signature line soon.

For a fourth gen 4runner like yours I would recommend www.toyota-4runner.org yotatech is a good site but I have found that the other site has better support for the fourth gen. Searching over on that site might help with other questions you might have that arent on here.
The driveshaft isnt sealed. Im not sure where you got you info from but seeing that you are being charged 950 for only 4 shocks to be replaces is unreal. I would never go back to that guy and go find another shop.
