Custom snorkel Help, then build :D

So ive wanted a snorkel forever but in the beginning just for looks but now that ive started actually wheeling and getting away from "mudding", ive encountered situations where i need it. So im about to be a senior in highschool so im tight on funds so buying an arb snorkel is out of the question. My solution, make my own. My plan is to use 3.5in exhaust tubing with mendrel bends and all one piece until it enters the engine bay. So i need to see how people have routed their snorkel tube once inside the engine bay, ive searched but the only ones i can find that have pics are ones in the fender and that come out the hood etc, none that go up the a-pillar. Any advice you guys have id appreciate. Im going to be doing this in the next few weeks for my big wheeling trip at the end of july so the race is on!

yea i did but i want one that goes all the way up the a pillar. I love your idea and if mine wasnt a dd i would do it but i think having it up the a pillar would be better for a dd.

Hmmm....well I dd mine. Where I wheel its better to have a low profile snorkel due to the low over hang trees and whatnot.

Hmm you know I haven't really thought of the trees, I've never had to worry about it. Most of the trails down here are pretty wide though hmmm

Before I just had a low profile inlet hood on the snorkel stack but now I have a dust prefilter to clear all the dust and dirt before it goes to the filter box. My snorkel is for consistency cooler air while on the trail and for mild water crossings. NOT plowing thru puddles. The way water flies off the front end I'd need a 10 foot snorkel!!!

ok thanks, i just went over your thread again, and how did you make that box? I wonder if any cars have something like that from the factory, maybe ill go check the junkyard. Ive been thinking of ways to retain the factory box and havent really had any success.

I made that box custom out of fiberglass. You could make your airbox work. I don't remember what the 3.0 one looks like.

it looks a little like this:

my onlt potential issue with it is the fact that its so far forward. my thought was to rotate it so the intake is facing the fender then pop out that hole and go in the inner fender well and pop it out wherever i decide on.

Snorkel head off Ebay, about 30 bucks...Pipe, elbows, airbox, and clamps from Lowe's less than a 100 bucks complete..

Snorkel

airbox

filter in the airbox

The airbox is connected to the snorkel with septic tube from a motor home, new of course..It allows movement while being water tight..

My advice is use PVC pipe, not exhaust tubing.

I'm definitely do pvc, maybe just for the first time but im going to be buying a mushroom head for a prefilter. How do the ard snorkels "filter" out water that gets into the snorkel? And doesnt their head have a filter?

It doesn't filter anything. The water is diverted out the bottom the head.
