What does your local dealer charge for Toyota keyless entry remotes?

My Toyota dealer wants $129 a piece plus $35 for programming for each of my cars (97 4Runner, 02 Sienna)

I'm curious to see what other dealerships are charging for new remotes and programming.

I'm done with ebay because the listings show new remotes, and 3 out of 3 times I've won - I end up with junk that doesn't work and won't program. First one was superglued together and cracked. Can't check the battery if you can't even open it. Second one was completely corroded inside from water and didn't work. The 3rd one only 1 button worked and it looked like someone tried to superglue the circuit board pieces back together. Each one was advertised as new, or like new and they obviously weren't anywhere close to that. The Keyles Ride site is run by one of those same lying ebay sellers, so thats off the list too.

What does your local dealership charge? I bet there's some that want even more than what mine is charging.

That sounds about right, the price I mean. Its a total bendover. I would keep trying ebay, otherwise you will have to bite the bullet so to speak.

I just bought an extra remote for our 99 4Runner off of Ebay. Cost me $15 shipped to my door. I programmed it myself and it works fine. The programming instructions can be found if you do a search. I previous;ly asked about programming the remotes and was given detailed instructions that worked perfectly. Too bad about your Ebay experience, but there is good and bad stuff out there.

I wouldn't mind the risk if it was only $15 for a black RS3000 remote on ebay, but they ran me almost $50 each time. Anyone have another source for the VIP (RS3000) remotes?

93, read that writeup above (mine). that will tell you everything you need to know and pay attention to the downloadable links for the install and ops manual.

ive seen people on ebay sell the grey remotes for the rs3000 which do NOT work w/ 4runners (i dont know about your sienna). thus, you got scammed.

Nah, the Sienna uses a different remote with a power button. I need a black remote for the RS3000 system for the 4Runner.

The other KR site wants about $95 a piece with shipping for the 97 4Runner remote.

They're less than 1/2 that price on ThePartsYouNeed site with the instructions included. I ordered 1 this morning.

Try American Toyota - 505-823-4440. Join IH8MUD first (takes 10 seconds) and you get a 20% or more discount, courtesy of Cruiser Dan there. I think I paid 70 something for a remote. Programming them is easy - you don't program the remote, you program the alarm. Turn on the key, press the button on the alarm unit under the seat, press the button on the remote, Voila...

Is it possible to get one of these keyless remote for a 4Runner that didn't come with one originally?

I've got power locks, windows, etc on my 97, but no fob.

Without being a total expert here is my experience....On my Talon I have power locks but no remote opener came with it. When I installed my alarm, the alarm's fab gave me a remote opener. So it is possible. You may not need to do an alarm, but perhaps the device that allows for remote action?? If it were me, I would call a local car alarm guy and tell them what you are looking to do.

I got my remote from ThePartsYouNeed.com in the mail today. 3 days isn't bad for delivery.

Programming was easy, took about 10 seconds. I can't believe a dealership would charge 1/2 hour of labor for a 10 second job. Thats a good way to lose customers.

Anyhow, the remote works great and when I went to put in an order for remote for the Sienna I noticed I got free shipping, so I bought a 2nd remote for the 4Runner and a pair for the Sienna. FINALLY I will have remotes that work and that I can use.

I got the 2nd set of remotes in today.

I confused myself a little when trying to program the 2nd remote to the 4Runner because I didn't finish reading. I was programming the new one, but de-programming the first remote. After like 3 tries, I decided to read the whole sheet and found that I had to program them both together.

The Sienna programming was pretty easy. Just a few turns of the key and had to press a few buttons and I was done. Now I have 2 remotes for each car which makes things a lot easier. Hopefully these won't end up in the washing machine like the last ones!

I got my 2 remotes from the same place. Very good instruction.. Very good price..

Now that I have 2 of them, I am thinking should I get a 3rd for a spare?

Interesting that you received your remotes. I paid for two remotes from
ThePartsYouNeed.com over a month ago and have received nothing, not even an email in reply to my queries. The last time I emailed them I received an error in return saying the receiver's inbox was full .. *sigh*
