So I lifted my 98 on OME 881/890 springs back in 10' and have been using stockish type tires since then. The outer edges of the tires have worn down quite a bit (presumably because they are fairly skinny and I hit corners too hard).
So I need some new tires and don't know where to start, most of the thinking I have done in terms of tires has centered around 18x245x40 type tires for my other vehicle which is a whole other game.
I mostly use my 3rd gen in the winter here in WY when my fast car is not so fun. I also get out on jeep trails between here and Utah in the summer and spend significant time on dirt county roads. Its a bit of a beater with 250k dings/rust/peeling clearcoat on top so I don't want to dump a huge sum into tires.
So I'm thinking I want something wider than stock but what tread-width/profile/load would you guys with experience recommend... or even specific tire recommendations.
I am running 265/75/16 on mine. Any smaller and the lift would look a little weird. I have the 881 and 890 with bilstein 5100s around. Front are bumped up to second notch for abkut 3 inches total. I have seen a lot of guys running 285/75/16 but you may need a 1 inch body lift to prevent rubbing. Others say they don't rub without the body lift. So I guess it depends in the tire. Maybe someone else will chime in. But I would just Google ome 881 890 tires 3rd gen 4runner. You will see a lot of answers. Mainly on t4r.org. here's a pic of mine. I think when it comes time I will just go with a mud terrains and rims with a different offset to get me more flush. I like not worrying about rubbing.

I run a 275/70/17 Goodyear MT/R Kevlar with my OME 891s in back (Tundra 5100s in front). It's a narrower tire than some folks use and it doesn't get the best floatations on sand, but it's killer for narrow trails.

No real sand around here, gravel and rock crawling on jeep trails mostly.
I don't have any experience with the geolanders. Tou could go to tirerack.Com and check out the reviews on them and all other tires. Good site to compare tires!
