tank size?
Can anyone tell me the capacity of the gas tank on an 87 4runner SR5?

Not specifically. I've put over 15 gal's in mine though i'm pretty sure when it was as low as i've had it.

On my 86 owners manual it says:
standard type: 14.8
large type: 17.2

My 87 non-SR5 had 17.5 gallon. The most I've ever put in was 17.4.

Drive it until the low fuel light comes on, then fill it up. Your tank size is ~2 gallons more than required to fill.
