Tacoma Lift ??
Im planning about a 2 1/2'' - 3'' suspension lift on my tacoma and have a question. Should i go with an add a leaf for rear lift of go for shackles. Ive searched the site and see both being used. just wondering which people liked better. im worried add a leaf will make the truck ride much rougher, but i also worry the shackles will ruin my leaf springs. dont know much about either would appreciate some experienced info. thanks.

I have an AAL in the back and the ride is rougher back there and the axle wrap is worse than before. I can't comment on the shackles 'cause I've never run them.
For me I have no problems with the AALs so it's all good.
Have you considered just buying a new leaf pack?

i thought about it but i currently dont want to spend over 300 for my lift and all the leaf packs i read about cost quite a bit. i drive this daily and mainly want a more aggressive look with 33'' tires. i only wheel it once every month or two.

How do (longer) shackles damage the leaf pack? Just curious. Shackles and AAL seem to be comparable in price (both about $80 to $100), seems like you might want the shackles if you don't haul much of a load.

aal does not contribute to axle wrap, they make the pack stiffer. they do contribute to more wheel bounce beacuse the rear end is so stiff. the reason i got one is because i hate the soft stock ride and i wanted to be able to carry more in the bed.

I'm not sure if the AAL contributes to the axle wrap OR if as a result of it the effects are magnified. All I know is that I feel the axle wrap MUCH more than I used to.

2. For a quality spacer kit, look at Cornfed or Toytec. Both make quality products for a really good price but Toytec has much better service.
3. The revtek kit is way over priced.
4. You will need more than 2.5-3 inches of lift to clear 33s.

If you want 33's I say go with Revtek. It's easy to install and it gives just enough lift to put on some 33's(with the right wheel off-set). It maybe just a little out of your price range but it is alot less expensive than any 4" sus. lift.

I did the Revtek lift w/ AAL's 2 months ago. The AAL's are great because they make the truck handle a lot better. It is stiffer but not harsh. Watch out for the 33's though. I upgraded to a 16" rim with 4.5" offset and had some rubbing issues. I got the front handled by pounding the pinch weld over and cutting the inner fender liner and fender flares. The back however is a bit tougher. The rear axle is not centered on the wheel well and causes the tires to rub on the back of the wheel well and fender. If you are not willing to do some pounding and cutting you should go with shackles and 32" tires. If you need some specific pic's of the kit installed, let me know. Toytec is priced a bit better than the Revtek and use aluminum spacers instead of cast iron.
