Also if you tightened up your torsion bars wrong it will cause it to do that.
So the alignment was just done, havnt touched the torsion bars, and the 3rd gens dont have a steering dampener that im aware of....

Im curious to know what you ended up figuring out...
Mine does the same thing except about....65 mph it shakes, but 68 mph its smooth.
And it does that off and on all the way up to 80 mph.

anything more to contribute on this, fellas? I just picked up an '02 with the same issue. pretty disappointing. I've had driveline issues before on my older '87. the u-joints were noticeably worn; they seem tight on the the '02, with the exception of the center support bearing, but I'm seeing mixed info on what's acceptable.

Rotate the tires, front to back ect. I had a shake issue years ago to the tune that my seat belts would lock up. It happened at about 53 mph-57 mph. On the scale of 1-100 its been a 5 nowadays.

I have a death wobble bad!!!! It boiled down to being the wheel bearing on the front driver side!!!!!!!! So while redoing the wheel bearings we are changing the ball joints, and tie rod end!!!!! Kinda sucks cause in February doing a sas on it!!!! Found out it was the wheeling bearing by kicking the tire side to side and getting a clunk noise! Tie rod and ball joints are tight so it's got to be the wheel bearing!!! So I'm just gunna change it all!!!!!!

fwiw, I just replaced the driveshaft center support bearing on my Tacoma, and it smoothed out the vibration almost completely. the slop left I'm sure is due to worn suspension components.

does the 1999 4Runner have the 3 piece driveshaft with center support bearing? if so, and it's not been checked, I recommend checking that along with the u-joints.
