Hey everyone,

Do you still have a slight haze when using your wipers? Once I turn off the wipers, the haze will disappear in a matter of seconds, but when used steady, then I have the permanent haze. I really buffed the windshield so it's not like I'm making a rookie mistake (I hope.) Questions? Comments? Concerns?

I love Rain-x but I seem to always get that same haze you are talking about. I think it might be because we are using too much of it. I don't know. I've tried that Castrol sprayon, wipe off stuff and it sucks. It doesn't last a week. Try using less when you apply it.

I stopped using Rain-X for that reason. I did not like the white haze on the windshield, especially when it wears off. :fireman:

I tried it and the jury is still out on wheter I like it or not.
I have had great results with Prestone's wiper tratment that cleans all the old rubber off your wiper blades.

I wonder if Rain X wouls work well on my glass headlights since they get dirty very quickly?

BTOWN, how'd you get the stuff off of your windshield? Even after it wears out there is still a haze. That is why I am still using it, cause I can not seem to really get it off of the glass. Someone once said steel wool but I am a little hesident about that.

I use to use Rain-X when it first came out, but have not used it in years.

At night going under street lamps, I'd get a halo effect on the window that would not look so nice when you are trying to see at night.

That's exactly what I am talking about. Also on-coming headlights. When I was out in Southern California I didn't need to worry about that cause there are no street lamps. But hey, there really wasn't any rain either.

I have used some of Griot's stuff before so I know they are a stand up company, although pretty expensive. I just don't want to go out purchasing every cleaner under the sun, you know? I even tried the solution of vinegar & water, supposedly a great window cleaner. It didn't help my case though.

I'll give Rain X a "pretty good". I was out in the rain tonight and did not really notice halos or hazing. I suppose there's a slight haze, not too bad to me. Seems that that night vision in rain is improved since the drops don't "stick", just blow away. Also, bug splats turn loose easier and cleaner with Rain X applied. Just a little rain and some windshield wiper action and the bugs were gone. That's a big plus for me.

Defintely try the steel wool thing. I do it every time I wash my truck. Get a nice fine steel wool, dunk it into your wash bucket and got at the whole windshield. Rince it off as soon as you are done. It will take off all the dirt and the bugs too.

Don't forget the wash your wiper blades with your sponge. They pick up a lot of crap and will work much better when cleaned.

yes 0000 steel wool works. I recently used it on all of my windows including the w/s. I used the wool with Maguiers Wheel polish of all things. I got the idea on the other boards search feature. I am very happy with the result. It removed all of my subborn water spots. Now, the windows shine and are very smooth to the touch.

I just used some Windex and it basically wore off using the winshield wipers. I would give that a try. :fireman:

Rain X now makes a jug of fluid you just dump in your washer
bottle. Its orange, and it works really well. I quit using Rain X a few
years ago, just because of the difficulty in doing the whole process.
Now with this stuff, I am back, and it is minimally more expensive
than the regular blue washer stuff.

I've never had a problem with Rain-x.....i just wish it lasted longer

I've always had great results using Rain-X. I agree that I wish it lasted longer. It is good for getting tar off of wheel wells and paint. In most cases the haze is caused by not getting the road grime off of the windshield or wipers before application. To get rid of the haze I have found that the best thing to do is:

1. Windex the windshield first and get ALL the gime off of it before you apply the Rain-X.
2. Use a clean 1/4 piece of folded paper towel for application (put the Rain-X on the cloth, not directly on the windshield).
3. Let it completely dry.
4. Use a slightly damp (not soaked) paper towel and wipe off the haze using circular motions. I do this 2X using a clean cloth each time.
5. IMPORTANT! Do not forget to clean your wipers! I use the same Windex/Rain-X system for them and everything comes out clean, streak-free, and with no wiper blade chatter.
