Problems after a trail ride!

I went trail riding tonight, when I was about to leave I got back in my rig(1998 toyota 4runner Auto) I couldnt shift out of park. I pressed the little switch and it shifted, and I got home, but my dash lights(speedometer, odometer, and tachomenter) don't work and my brake lights don't work.

I am trying to fix these things before my parents find out, any tips?

I have been hypothesizing and searching, While i was offroading i think my trailer wiring was dangling down and may have been ripped or cut open and water may have gotten in, which caused my brake lights to go out, which caused me not to be able to shift out of park(safety feature). Sorry for the run on sentence. What do you think about this?

Its a fuse. Look under the hood, and check the under dash fuses as well.

Uuuum - why would your parents be upset? It's your car right? If not - then they knew you were taking it off road right? *eek*

x2 on the brake light fuse. replace it and you will be fine. might make sure to fix the trailer wiring harness if it has been damaged, it might short out again.

Yes, they did know I was going offroading and yes it is my car. The reason i do not want them to know that something is wrong with the car is because they are just getting use to this offroading idea. I do not want to turn them against it because of something stupid, although i think they would understand.
