Pro-Comp shocks
Are pro-comp shocks any good? Performance has them on sale. I would like to get Bilstiens but I can't afford them, even with 15% off.:cry:

I have been running Bilsteins for 3 years now, and I wouldn't have any other shocks on my truck. The way I see it, if you get other shocks, you will probably end up replacing them again with the Bilsteins. I think that you should save a little more money and get the Bilsteins. just my .02.

Wanted to ask, I don't intend to lift my truck except marginally, maybe 1" body, will these stock bilsteins accomodate this?

yup. the place where I got my suspension tried to sell me some new shocks to go with the 3'' downey coils. I ended up looking at the extension and compression specs of the shock that they tried to sell me. The shock they spec'ed had the same specs as the bilsteins for the non lifted height.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will just have to try to save some money up for some bilstiens. This forum sure does cost me alot of money.:cry:

i run pro comp's in the back of my truck. they could ride a little bit better, but it may be because i have them mounted upside down, i dont know if with pro comp shocks you have ot mount them up. but it seems they drop out really fast. i think it is also my springs that make it do that tho. they were only 30 bucks a piece so i got em. theyre the es3000.

I'm with the general consensus here, save up a bit more money and buy the Bilsteins, not only will you be getting FAR better shocks than the Procomps (A friend of mine had 5 sets of Procomps blow out in 3 months (First set blew all at almost the same time, returned them got another set, same thing, returned, third set only 2 blew out, returned those, then the other 2 blew out, etc...) So after my friend's problems with them (he's still trying to get his money back for the shocks from Procomp, they keep telling him that it's his fault they blew, which is BS because he didn't offroad once during that 3 months 
) I definitely would never even consider putting them on either of my trucks. But anyway other than getting great shocks (with the Bilsteins) you'll also get a lifetime warranty, which you definitely can't beat 
I'm saving up some money right now to get a set of Bilsteins installed on my 2002 Xterra (hehe almost 3 days old, and only 220 miles on it <it had 40 when I bought it > and I'm already planning mods for it 
) And I just got a set of Bils installed on my '91 4Runner almost a month ago, and they're awesome!!!!
You'll be very happy that you saved a bit, and spent the extra money on the Bilsteins

Hey 191145auto! I'll take the specs if you can find them, good to know thay'll easily handle 1". My minds made up on the Bilsteins, just gotta do my engine swap, then save up again.
My stock shocks are kinda rusting out around the edges, look really bad but for some reason they're still doing fine. Bought it from a hispanic grandmother who had to switch to an automatic,so I can only assume she didn't drive it hard at all.

I had Pro-Comps on my first Toyota 4x4 (which was a 92 I think). Personally I wasn't too impressed with them. They started rusting in only a month or two and didn't make that much of a difference in the handling or ride of my truck. Save up and get the Bilstien's.

the MT/R's are great i Love them. if you are in the market for new tires, get them, they are awesome, and they look cool too.

Any opinions on the OME shocks compared to the Bilsteins? I know that the Bilsteins give a very stiff ride and good off-road performance, but I've been told that for long distance (ie 50-100 mile) stretches of hard washboard road combined with highway comfort, the OME's are a better choice. Opinions?
