Unhappy Potential major engine problem advice??

I have a 2001 4Runner 4WD with 110,000 miles, purchased 2 years ago w/ 74k. I have had the last two oil changes analyzed by oil analysis, and both show very excessive bearing wear, as indicated by a high level of lead. 18, and 45 ppm (5700 mi on Amsoil ATM) respectively. Obviously, this is a cause for concern. Several actions have been taken to try to alleviate the wear; complete tune up, air filter, and checking for air leaks after the filter, and others.

My questions are, can the oil pan be removed w/ the engine in the vehicle? Can the main bearings be changed? The service manual does not seem to indicate for in car repair.

Thanks,

Bob

Toyota recommends much more frequent oil changes. Following their service recommendations will drop the pb ppm's. Personally, I am not happy with the very small bearings Toyota uses in their engines. You may want to switch to more frequent oil changes to reduce the contaminates found when an oil analysis is performed. Join the club.

No, you'll need to pull the motor to change the main bearings.
