Odd front end noise
#21
Bump for this old thread..
Searched a long time and this was the closest I could find to a weird sound on my '98 4runner, 4x4, 3.4 auto.
Same thing for me.. start the truck, drive a few feet, this weird rubbing sound happens once, then goes away. It always happens, no matter which gear you start in, 4wd hi/lo, even rolling in neutral down a hill. I thought it could have something to do with the ABS priming itself but I tried starting out with the e-locker engaged (abs disabled) and same thing happens. Figure it's got to be something electrical related due to it only occurring when the truck has just been started.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Are you sure its not the cv's...? I had a similar problem and I found it to be the boots grinding on one another...i put some oil on the boots and that took care of it.
