Hey, don't quote me out of context!!!! Utah does throw its share of salt down, but it's not humid, like some of the other states (NE). Maybe that's a big reason?

humidity sucks, esp in the summer here in NC. when its 92 degrees outside and the humidity is 80% or more the weather man makes a statement like " its 92 outside with --% humidity, thus it feels like 102 degrees"... he aint sheetin' ya! its every bit of 102 plus you are soaking wet bc of sweat and humidity andyou cant hardly breath bc the air is so thick.. it sucks

Goat I saw the pic of your frame over in that huge thread and I was thinking, "hell yeah, Texas and Oklahoma FTW!!". Thank God they don't need to use salt on the roads around here!

I would be really upset if I had to return my Tacoma, because like some of the people were saying in that thread, the new Taco is huge compared to the older ones. I think the '05+ look great, but not everyone wants a truck that big. If I were in their position I would just look for a '01-'04 that didn't have any rust problems.

03 and 04 5VZ's arent throttle by wire, they use a mechanical throttle cable just like all the others. The cruise conroll switches to electronic instead of vacuum in 00-01, thats what your thinking of. Now the 05+ taco's with the 1GR-FE have ETC but thats not the year range hes looking at

I cant really say much about the frame rust because i live in central oregon. I bought some demello offroad rear reinforcements for mine to put over where the supposed weakspot is because my truck was hit by an F150 and i was nervous about the frame being stressed in that area.

Thanks to all for the insight, I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for frame rust. However, in this part of California I don't expect to see much unless the P.O. liked to travel to Truckee for some skiing or whatever.
One question my wife brought up... Is there a middle rear seat and how well does a car seat fit there?

I have a 03 DC and I love it, for all the reasons given early on in the thread. I also have two kids, and I love being able to wheel the thing on the weekends, and then take the kids to school on Monday. Two car seats fit just fine back there. In fact, this last weekend, we had both car seats and my wife sitting back there. (It was tight, but it worked!)

We do use salt here, but we don't have many snow/ice storms, maybe 2 or 3 a year.

That's good, at least the salt exposure to your truck is limited. We usually get one or two good ice storms a year, but they use sand instead of salt. It's not very effective, but it's better than nothing I guess.

Yeah actually I usually leave the truck in the garage and drive an old Taurus when there is salt down on the roads. I really like driving that old bomb cause I don't have to worry it. With my truck I'm like checking to see if the cat is still there after I park for 30 minutes. Pretty sad huh.

I have an '03 Tacoma Double Cab TRD 4x4 and love it. As stated they are v-6 and auto. I've had mine since new and it's never had a single issue. It's a great truck.

I've had 3 adults in the back and it's tight but do-able for short trips. Now that I have kids, there are two car seats back there with some room to spare between them.
