Need a 2nd Key for 99 4Runner

Does anyone know of any key cutters that can cut and program a key for my 99 4Runner. The stealer (dealer) wants $100 for the key and to program it and another $150+ for a remote. I figure I can get by the one remote I have but I really feel uncomfortable having only one key. I live in Tampa by the way.

Check ebay. Tons of chipped keys on there and they come with instructions. There is a thread with instructions on here. You'll have to do a search for that.

Do you really need a chipped key? I got a regular key made at a hardware store that works fine.

I got a remote from ebay for $20 (and programmed it myself despite the dealer trying to convince me that remotes could only be programmed though a toyota computer). A new key from the dealer was $4.90. Wasnt a chipped key though.

I was a little wary about the keys from EBay. Do you know of any sellers that are credible?
By the way I did search for anything about keys and came up blank. How about a few hints for search topics.

Unfortunatly the previous owner left an aftermarket alarm system or kill switch and everytime the dealer went to program the second remote all it did was set off the alarm. It is a strange set up and the dealer would not touch it as far as taking it out.

some locksmiths now have transponder key programming capability. call around and see if anybody in your area can do it. they are usually cheaper than the dealer. mike

Do you need one?

I don't think you need a chipped key. Mine is not.
