Is my starter on the way out?

I have this thing that just started monday but its been pretty consistent since. When I go to start my car (typically happens first start of the morning) I get in turn the key and I get nothing at all, wait a second and turn the key again and it starts completely fine. It usually only does it once in the morning.....is this a sign of a starter going bad?

When mine started to go out it seemed like it gave me problems in the mornings. It may have only seemed to give me problems in the morning, since I was always in a hurry in the morning. But after a bit it will just completely go and possibly leave you stranded. I put up with it for a little bit before I changed it out. Towards the end, I would have to crank the key for 10-15 minutes before it would start.

starters usually click when they are on the way out....

If it doesnt start...try banging on the starter (lightly) with a hammer....if it starts right up then its your starter....

I have used Toyota starters if you are interested

Here is a simple check you can do to help isolate the source of the problem:

Also check the condition of your positive battery cable. Make sure it's corrosion free and well connected. I've had first hand experience with that while thinking I had a starter issue .

check connections from battery to starter. if those are good, then its your starter contacts. kits are available from the dealer for cheap. the fun part is trying to pull the starter out. takes a bit of twisting and contorting...but it'll come out. re & re the contacts, and youre done.

My starter did the same thing yours is doing, and it was the copper contacts inside the starter. I got them from the dealer for $24. It was alot cheaper than buying a new/reman. starter and just as easy a fix. After I put the new contacts in the starter, I made sure all the connections were free of corrosion (especially the positive batter cable) and she fired right up! Sounded like a put a brand new starter in her.
