It's not that mine sounds bad. It's just too loud. I think the tone is perfect. Has anyone been able to get a 24" muffler and a resonator under a 4Runner? The guy at the muffler shop says he is doubtful. What resonator would you suggest? The only thing I can find is the Flowmaster Hush Power. Man that thing is expensive.

rbh,

In all honesty, try driving it around for a month, and then decide if you still want it quieter. I assure you that it will quiet down somewhat.

The other option is to sell your muffler and pick up the 5x11x22" pn 12586.

Personally, I would only swap out this muffler for something better. It would have to be stainless steel inside and out and have a straight through design that matches or exceeds the fit and finish of Magnaflow's mufflers.

Stainless steel housing. Stainless steel perforated core. Stainless steel mesh... I have yet to see better muffler components.

Throwing on resonators and tips that might impede flow will hinder performance/affect gas mileage, etc.

I put a flowmaster 50 series muffler on my 2nd gen 4runer , and it sounds good, loud enough on the outside , but quiet on the inside.

Are you saying this is a much quieter muffler? I bought the one I have only on opinions from this forum. Usually, everything I read here is accurate, but I'm disappointed with what I have ended up with. I'm not blaming anybody. Quiet is a matter of opinion and this time my opinion differs from those who say my current muffler is quiet. So, with that said, is the muffler you mentioned definitely quieter? I have already gotten to the point where I hate the volume of this thing. It's got to go!
Thanks.

Well said.

I wouldn't want to misinform or misguide you into purchasing a muffler that may or may not be quieter than your current setup. I would say try posting a soundclip and I'll see what I can do to get one posted as well... However, IMHO, unless you have the same equipment and decent speakers, soundclips are useless and a complete waste of time. In all honesty, I haven't heard a sound clip that made me decide to go with one muffler over the other.

If performance is not a priority, stock is the best way to go.

I listened to a bunch of sound clips, from what I could tell the Jardine sounded the smoothest really.

Why do some people think poorly of Borla? I had dual 2.5" Borla's on my 4.6 Mustang with Longtubes and a high flow catted x-pipe, that car sounded freakin amazing, really. I haven't heard borla on any smaller engines but of the many companies out there they were one of my favorite sounding mufflers by far.

I will be removing the Magnaflow either Monday or Tuesday. So, look for it in the for sale listings in the next few days. Don't know what I'll replace it with, but I hope it is quieter. I'm tempted to try the 12586 model, but I haven't gotten anyone to tell me if it is loud or not.

With the size of the Magnaflow, there is no room left for a resonator or anything of the sort. I'm jumping from two different threads here and as I have posted in the other, the Magnaflow is coming off. Anyone interested in it, PM me.
