Hood Release Cable Loose

Hello everyone,

The Hood Release Cable of my 98 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 4x4 is loose. Every time I open the hood, the cable does not retract from the open position and the hood does not open. Then I use my hand to pull the Release Cable real hard then the hood can open. I tried to search lots of information online but I could not find any information at all. What's wrong with the Hood Release Cable and how can I adjust or fix it?

What do you mean by "cable does not retract from the open position"?
Is the cable or he attachment broken on one end or the other?

Get a can of spray white lithium grease. Hit that locking mechanism from all angles with that red straw.

My wife's Tacoma had the same problem. I had to cut out a section or her grill to get access to the three 10mm bolts securing the release lever (real PIA) so I could replace the TB and h2o pump, then I secured hood w/ rope (another REAL PIA). I finally went to the dealer and bought a new cable ($40+). No amount of lubricant would have worked for my problem. The cable was frayed somewhere in the sheath and the ends of the sheath were 'pretty snug' where the cable protruded. Good Luck!

Red face

Time to replace the cable.

Other parts broken as well??

Go to your dealer and buy a new one.

As was suggested lubing the cable I do mine about every 2 weeks.

Since I check fluids every day it gets opened quite a lot

Do you open your hood at least once a day??

Thank you very much for your subjection and input. I finally solved the problem. It was the three bolts that click/hold the hood at the front.
