Help decide: remote starter, brakes, tires?

Hey guys,

I have a 1996 4Runner and I'm looking to do something to it but I need help deciding.

I can get a remote starter installed for $199 plus $65 if I want remote locks.

I could do brakes pads with that (which I will need in about a month)

OR

I could do the Tundra brake upgrade but I haven't priced it out yet. It seems like it might be worth it to get extra stopping power although I don't really do any off-roading.

But I'm from massachusetts and that's why I am looking into a remote starter. But it's not a necessity and is more of a luxury and I'd like some opinions on the things I listed.

Thanks guys

Do the tundra upgrade. The remote starter can wait.

Well last time I checked brake pads are like $30 max, but I just get mid grade quality ones at NAPA. Tundra upgrade sounds nice, but I don't think I'd do it myself, I never thought the brakes were ever bad even with 35's.

If I were you, I'd probably get tires, but I have an obsession with tires.

remote starters are overrated. Also makes the vehicle easier to steal.

yeah that's true, I have lived through 5 winters without a remote starter... But now I am working earlier and it would be handy... hmmmm

Any idea how much the tundra upgrade would cost? Even a rough estimate? People seem to be really happy when they do it.

Tires are actually on my list but alitte further down.. My current tires slip pretty easily but I'm used to how to control them

Brakes

Just replace the pads with Adaptive one pads from NAPA. Inner and outer pad have different compounds and work awesome

i put a set of adaptive one pads on my celica and they were worse then my oem ones that were down to the metal backing. i took them off to install the trd ones and they were coming apart before a months use. the trd ones stop like none other. just have more brake dust.

just my 2 cent input here but xxxtreme22r how can u say that a remote starter makes a vehicle easier to steal

if a remote starter is installed properly then it does not make the vehicle easier to steal i know this because i have one that i installed my self and an alarm that i also did and i have also done security systems on other cars with remote starters

I'm with Kerby, I have a remote starter and love it...totally worth it on cold mornings or if you forget to roll up a window and don't want to have to climb in to roll it up or if your giving someone a jump. They by no means make it easier to steal, the alarm is still armed after you start the vehicle and as soon as you hit the brake (in mine) the car will turn off and the kill switch engages if you set the alarm off and shuts off the vehicle. BUT, brakes are more important than remote start so take care of that before anything else.
