So what did you come up with as far as a total? Does anybody have a shopping list of how many we need of what bulbs?

Well, the A/C control and Rear defroster use those neo-wedge bulbs like Fo_Sheezy mentioned... they are pretty easy to replace.

As for the bulb total, My 98 4Runner (I don't know exactly what changed for each year) uses:

-3 #194 for the gauges
-2 #74 for the climate control
-1 #74 for the shifter
-1 #74 for the ignition key ring
-1 #74 for the ash tray
-1 Neo-wedge for the A/C
-2 Neo-wedge for the rear defroster

On the rear defroster you can change the bulb for both the backlighting and the "on" light, A/C is just the backlighting.

You can also change out the indicator lights in the dash, such as 4x4, ECT PWR, Cruise, turn signals, etc. by replacing them with #74.

Just a note for those that need to change the smaller bulbs (bulb is tiny with 14V 1.4W written on it and is much smaller than the 74 but the dealer can't seem to find a part number for...), I found one at Autozone (although their computer said it was a 74...) that was very close.

The bulb # was 2721 (although it is 2.1W instead of 1.4W) euro bulb that is the same size as the the Toyota bulb and is only $2 for 2. You will have to re-use the green sleeve from the old bulb (if yours has one).

can we see some before/afters?

what other colors are available? i would like to do a dim white light on the key ring like a lexus, makes it look nicer in my opinion. then red for the signals and gauges, then amber on the console.

I want to see pics too. I just got a 2002 and it seems the dash lights and the heater/ac lights are not very bright. I have the knob cranked all the way up. Is it easy to get at these bulbs?

Alright, sorry the pictures took forever, my computer self-destructed on me. Here they are:

The LEDs are available in various colors... white, blue, red, purple, amber, etc...

I would definitely like to change my clock to blue, but I don't even know if that is possible? If not I may just unplug it since my deck has a clock on it.

two places...
www.autoillumination.com
www.superbrightleds.com

dash consists of 3 #194 bulbs
All the little things in the dash like the signals and cruise buttons are #74 bulbs. There is also a 74 in the key ring, shifter, and two behind the ac controls.

I bought mine from www.superbrightleds.com. I bought the 5 LED #194 bulbs, which really spread out the light well. It has one forward firing LED and 4 coming out the sides. I went ahead and ordered two type A neo wedge bulbs today from autoillumination, and I saw that they have some #74 bulbs that have 3 LEDs which should spread out the light better. I went ahead and ordered two for my climate control. I wouldn't go with those for anything else though as the lens is much wider and might not fit.

As for the white LED interior lighting, I replaced my front and rear dome lights and also the front spots with white LEDs. It is extremely simple to do, just your basic plug and play. I bought those off of an ebay store called VLEDs for about $7 a piece, and you need four. Those are #3175 by the way... The light is much cleaner, no more of that gross yellowness, although some people like the yellow because it has a "softer" feel to it.

I replaced both map lights and front and rear dome lights as well with white LEDs. Much better IMO.

Got all 4 from autolumination.com

So, I bit the bullet and I installed some white gauge overlays over my stock gauges... and I love 'em! I loved the LEDs at night, but during the day the gauges looked so bland. The blue LEDs actually help it look awesome because the blue light comes out through the odometer and also shows a little right around the needles. They still light up blue but they are also red. I'll post some pictures for ya'll to see. The gauges were only $50 shipped and the install went very well. Also, I'm still waiting for the neo wedge bulbs to get here...

Do you know the exact part numbers you used for each of those?

The dome lights in the 4runner are weak, I need something stronger especially in the rear when I'm unloading my gear at night, can't see nothing.

Just a note, generally speaking the more LEDs the unit has, the brighter it will be.

Here are some options:

These are the bulbs I use.

And here are some other options...

If you really need a lot of light, something like this is probably best.

So there you go.

Pdyebrasil, Which #74's did you end up using for the other stuff in your dash? They had a T1.5 and then a B8.3D that's supposed to be a smaller version. Also, did those 3 ways work out for your climate control? I'm not sure if that'll work on mine because I have the digital CC. I'm going to tear it apart tomorrow. Thanks

When you go to buy the #74 bulbs on the SuperBrightLEDs website you'll see the T1.5, then the B8.3D, and right after you'll see the "74 wedge base LED bulb". Those are the ones I got.

BTW, the 3 way LED works much better in the Climate Control than the single LED.
