Your not doing it right, you have to completely take that piece out and put the two Type A's in there. That's the only way to do it.

Just a few questions...I had everything disassembled this afternoon to double check everything before I order up and stopped short of checking the gauge lights, now I am regretting it.

1) I am going to order (3) 24's for my gauge but am not sure if I need the 5/16" diameter or 3/8" diameter bulbs.

2) (Just trying to understand the last two posts in this thread) As for the neo wedges for the back window and the defrost/ECT lights. Do these lights fit directly into the opening for the original lights? Or will I have to take out the black boxes containing these buttons that are attached to the center trim piece and disassemble them??

3) How do I get to the cig bulb? Here's where I was able to get to...

Thank you for any advice...I'll add a reply listing all the bulbs I used for a 2002 when I finish. Think it would be nice to provide a complete shopping list others.

that cig bulb is hardwired into that plastic piece. you'll have to do some modifying to get a new bulb in there.

wrong. twist the gray piece and you'll see the entire thing comes apart.

the bulb is in the end of the wire you already twisted out of the gray thing on the cig lighter

yeah, give that a try and see how far that gets you! i've done this twice, neither were the usual pull out bulb, both were the element with the two leads on the ends that don't correspond with any bulb you can order from superbriteleds to just pop a new one in. i know the little grey part twists off, but then you get what i said after that, no simple pull out and plug in bulb, all hard wired just like the ECT button on my '98.

I've had mine switched out for almost 8 months now and never posted pics. I decided to go with red as its much easier on the eyes than the factory green.

I went with a combo of LED and normal bulbs with red covers. I went with the covers on the instrument cluster to avoid the hot spots. Overall it turned out very well and matches the Alpine x100 perfectly. The scanner below the Alpine is orange and I will have to find an electronics tech to switch those out. Its a little beyond my skills...

I unplugged the clock for now. I bought an outside temp gauge that displays in red to replace the factory clock. Its too cold here now to work on it and will have to wait for spring.

I replaced all of the dash lights on my '90 4x4 and I think it was 19 lights in total and i bought out the local auto parts store in one shot. The colour is so much better without the green condoms.

Just break the cig bulb and put the LED in, I believe that's what most people are doing.

I broke the cig bulb but nothing really works. I have 5-led, 3-led, and regular bulbs from autolumination that won't work. All are too tall to fit back into the cig fixture. The led bulbs would need to have contacts on the edges to work anyways. Might order up some bulb covers and see if those work...unless I can get some ideas from others...

Worst case scenario I go to the dealership and buy another lovely green cig bulb which will match my clock.

Your using a #74 bulb right? Try to widen the bulb socket with some tweezers, that's what I had to do.

i just bought a new radio bezel for the clock, and i'll probably end up doing the same thing as my last bezel with the area underneath for 3 gauges just for fun. so, when it arrives i'll take some snapshots of the cig lighter and how i changed mine to an LED, but once done it is permanent as it involves securing the bulb holder with some JB Weld. will post up later.

Fo_SheeZy...all three bulbs I tried were 74's. Part of the problem is the length of the bulbs which I can probably work around. The other problem is getting the bulb to hit the contacts in the plastic connector. I'm going to bend over and stop buy Toyota tomorrow to get another bulb/connector or two to try some new things.

I drilled out the center of the connector I have trying to work some magic with my lengthy 74's. Didn't work. When my neo wedges come in I'll try to pull off the base on a neo and attach the bulb somehow. Thinking that may work and fit too.

pattycakes...pictures would be great! Nice custom job on your last bezel...that's impressive work.
