Engine DEAD!!!
My V6 in my 92 4Runner is dead. The other day it started fine, I put it in gera and started to dack up and it stalled pretty violently. When i restarted it it idled very rough and I nursed it home never leaving 3rd gear because it had no power. I never broke 40mph. It was late so next day when I went to start it and fiddle with it it was plain old dead. The battery and starter are good and the enginr turn, no combustion though. I replaced the cap, rotor and wires, plugs are less than 1000 miles old. I can smell gas with the plugs out and they are sparking ok. The air filter is not cloged. I tried ether starting fluid but nothing. Maybe the fuel filter, I bought one to replace the old one with but my repair mannual says "do not remove the fuel filter without depressurixing the fuel system" and it says to depreasurize the fuel system, " step one: turn on engine..." a-holes! Anybody got ideas, I'm stumped.

Do a search on the fuel filter, there are several threads about it. I know on mine, all I had to do was remove the gas cap, but there is another step for non-carb trucks. Maybe one of your sensors went bad?

If you take off the kick panel on the passenger side there will be a connector under there. That is what powers the fuel pump. If you disconnect it and crank the motor, it will depressurize the fuel system. I didn't do this when I replaced my fuel filter. It just leaked out a little, no biggie. Just make sure there are no sparks and that you aren't smoking at the time. It would probably be a good idea to disconnect your battery too.
I don't think the fuel filter is your problem. Is there a check engine light? It sounds like you are getting fuel. My bet would be that its a timing issue also.

Do a compression check to make sure you don't have any mechanical damage.
Then work on the engine management stuff (ie spark, air and fuel).
Don't worry about depressurizing the fuel system, just crack the fitting.
It will spay for a split second and stop (make sure ignition is off though!!!!).
Have some rags handy to mop up the mess.

update
the airflow door is fine, checked that. I'm starting to think it is timing too, a mechanic asked if it seemed to idle a little high lately. it was but I chalked it up to cold weather enging opperationg here in Ohio. Sorry to say this was beyond me, I am only 17 so I bit the bullet and took it to a garage. Ill make sure to let you know what the verdict is.

Well, here is the run-down, The fuel preassure was low, but not to low, a filter was replaced. The ignition coil was damaged from use (192K) and had failed to spark correctly. The Unburnt fuel caused a backfire. The backfire sliped a tooth on the timing belt that was too loose. This was because sometime ago the water pump berring had broken but did not fail and become off center and stretched the already old belt an inch. The slip caused missing of course. meanwhile the ignition moudule had failed slowly and was not permitting the engine to start the next day when I tried, a built in safety. So, new plugs, fuel filter, timing belt, wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil and ignition module. THE ULTIMATE TUNE UP . It does run way better than ever before now. Needless to say, the money I was saving for a body lift, new rims and 33x12.50s is long gone, oh well. It feels good to have my baby back and I know it was fixed right. The guy even felt so bad for me he knocked off $300 worth of diagnostic and inspectoin time charges . I'm upset it happened but happy it got fixed.

That's an awfully nice thing to do. If I were you, I'd use him again and send him a few people too. You usually don't meet mechanics that are willing to do that.
At least it's fixed.
