Driveshaft Help.

I've got a 94 4Runner, with a 3.0 V6 4x4 , I just had a freak driveshaft blowout on the highway anmd would like to buy one from a guy at a junkyard but I don't know off hand which years and models have the same or compatable driveshaft as mine. Any info would be great. The guy has a 91 tacoma 4x4 with a 3.0, I don't know if it's a regular cam or extended.

First off, no Tacoma in '91, they did not start until 1995.5 model year.
Second off, no 3.0 engine in the Tacomas, they had the 2.7/4 and 3.4/6.

Measure the length of your shaft and the bolt hole spacing on each end. Likely a regular cab pickup shaft will fit, an extra cab will not, it is a 2-piece shaft, extra long for the added wheelbase.

alright well name-technicalities aside the 90-95 pickup with standard cab should be the same as the 4Runner then? I called the nearest Toyota dealership and they don't know ÅÅÅÅ, all they told me was a new one would cost me $1200 and I about crapped myself.

It may fit, length-wise anyway. There can be some flange differences in terms of bolt hole spacing depending on engine/tranny/t-case. Nothing a little drilling can't fix. Or, you can have the existing drivshaft repaired at a driveline shop. Not sure what broke, but it could run as little as $100 to get yours fixed or you can have a whole new shaft built for around $300. Or try http://www.car-part.com/ to find a closer vehicle match for parts.

well that's my next issue, I have no idea why it broke, I wasn't even giving it hell, and I raraly do on this car it's got 156k on it. I was going 75 mph in cruise control on the highway and the freakin yoke at the transfer case just blew out, it slapped around a couple of times knockin my exhaust off and busting a rear cooling line for the heater box before It snapped off under my rear tire and got hit by the semi behind me....nedless to say no resurecting that. I really can't figure out why it busted, everything seems to be ok, the U-jaints are only abotu 2 months/3500 ,miles old? Any thoughts?

Hard to say, may have been a defective u-joint, or it was improperly installed or even as simple as the new u-joint was not properly lubed after it was installed. May also have been some wear or damage from before you had the u-joints replaced (that caused the old joints to fail in the first place).

Do you have a manual tranny or a auto tranny?

manual and auto are different, but from what I just found by replacing mine for the same reason as you (almost same story but it never came all the way off) any of the 90-95 with the same tranny setup should work.

Could have been put on using bolts not to spec or cheap u-joints considering it broke at both ends. If the u-joints busted, your flanges will still be on the transfer case output flange and pinion flange. If the bolts busted, the flanges will still be connected to the drive shaft. Report back, as I am interested in this one!
