Complete Interior Modification in Progress. 6mo Project.
Now that my engine issue is resolved I can move on to bigger and better things.
I figured I should start a new thread for this.
The goal:
I plan on painting my 4Runner Yellow in a few months and I want the interior to match.
I want all the tan in my car to be black. I plan on having small pieces of yellow displayed in the interior (door handles, small pieces and so on). The carpet and roof lining will be replaced with neoprene. I also want to recover the door panels with neoprene. Of course I will have custom tailored seat covers. I plan on this project taking me about 6 months. Not because it’s hard but because of $$$.
Here are the beginning pics. I started on the rear interior panels first. I chose the Krylon Fusion. I’ve read a lot of reviews and it seems to be the best for what I am doing. Here are the results from today.
That is my beautiful fiance. She is pleased with the results.
They are a little dusty from the garage and need a little touch up work. Overall I am very happy with the results. The panels look much better than I had expected.

Very nice job, that looks really factory from a distance like that, I hope it looks that clean up close. That is awsome and a very huge undertaking. I'm glad to hear someone is going at a project slowly because of money, I was begining to feel like the only one. It sucks being a college guy, while everyone else on the board is 30 something with a carear and funds. I hope in six months I can roll my 85' out of the garage DONE. Good luck man, keep us updated, I really want to see the final product.

The carpet will be coming out. It will be replaced with Neoprene. I know you can buy neoprene seat covers but I plan on having them custom made. I also plan on doing the door panels with neoprene as stated above.

Yeah. I've worked with this material before. It's really easy to make designs and such. I plan on using black neoprene for the majority and have small bits of yellow worked in. It will look really nice when I am done. On top of the neoprene I will also have the heavy duty plastic floor mats.

Yea, I feel your pain. Second year College student hear. Summers are for saving up and cutting as much off the top as you dare for car projects. I'm hoping to be done with my runner in 5 months which should take about $1500 bucks.
Back to the painting job, I have been considering that since my 4runner is black. It would look sweet with a black interiour. Don't think I could go all the way to the door panels and carpet though.

So what are your plans for your carpet, seatcovers, etc. after you neoprene everything? If they're in decent shape, I might like to take them off your hands.

Looks like you're off to a great start, and you're right..to do a custom interior right, and with saving money here and there..it will take about 6 to 8 months. I redid the interior in my Grand Prix GTP completely custom with dye, replacement panels and carpeting, etc....it took about 6 to 8 months from start to finish (most of that was tracking down replacement parts and such on classifieds and from Pontiac). I won some awards at regional car shows for interior modifications, and it was a good feeling knowing I did it myself and it was unique...I turned it from tan to black, grey, and some hints of red...turned out great..then I sold the car
