Brake Rotor Specifications
Got a quick question regarding replacement of the brake rotors on a 96 SR5 4x4 with 16in wheels. At 116K miles, I thought that the front pad/disks were soon to be in need of replacement. So I gathered the parts - ie Perf Frict Pads, Toyota OEM Rotors, ect - also planning on putting some stainless brake lines in place of the factory rubber ones.
Anyhow - the original pads still had 2mm before hitting the wear indicator!!! So I measured the rotors - 0.861. Factory originals are 0.864!!! Minimum for refinishing/turning is 0.787. No recent or past indication of warped rotors (ie pulsing/pulling). So what would you do???
Replace the rotors anyhow?? Turn the original rotors and reinstall (ensure proper seating/contact & less chance of squeal)?? Lightly sand the glaze from the original rotors and reinstall??
Any other suggestions or thoughts?? Thanks in Advance

At 75k miles, I heard slight squealing during braking. I assumed that my pads were finally eroded down to the wear indicators (Squealers?). I bought a set of rotors (slotted and x-drilled) some performance friction pads, synthetic brake fluid, and stainless brake lines (and some shoes for the rear end).
When I removed the wheel, the rotor looked in good shape. When I removed the caliper the pads looked very good (only slight discoloration from heat; no visible difference between new pad thickness and old pad thickness).
Ditto the rear drums.
I opted to install the stainless lines, rotors and perf. pads for theoretical performance increase while leaving the rear shoes asi-is. (Read that last line to be: theoretical performance upgrade was minimal; no difference in wear rates, yet).
Based on the amount of rotor warpage reported in other threads, I'd suggest leaving everythign as-is (definitely change the fluid).
