ARB Bumper reinforcement?
Ok..I'm a little confused. I plan on getting an arb for christmas. I'm hoping it'll work out for me. I've done some searching and I've been doing the usual research on the install that I tend to do. I'm assuming that I'm getting the right bumper. This one http://www.4by4connection.com/arbwinbarfor9.html ...first off please let me know if I'm looking at the wrong one, but I'm pretty sure it's the right one. Now the part I need clearing up is that I plan on winching with it and from one of the older threads I read about some reinforcing that needed to be done with the endcaps on the frame. It's an older post so I don't know if this still needs to be done or if ARB has done something to correct the problem. Here are the links from the thread explaining the mod for reinforcing the frame.

Here's the thread also....sorry this is such a long post

Hopefully you guys can clear this up for me. Thanks and I'll get some pics up once I get everything done. I might get lift for it as well. hehhehe It's gonna be a good christmas. Thanks again

Those references to the endcaps are for 3rd Gen 4runners. Yours is a second gen. I don't think you need to do the endcaps, but I could be wrong. Hopefully someone w/ a second gen will chime in...

What's the "no brainer" part? I don't know whether or not it is needed to be done or if it has since been fixed. I wasn't sure if the 3rd and 2nd gens would be the same, but assumed they'd be close. I know, I know....assuming things aren't the best way to go about understand this, but that's why I'm asking you guys before I rip my stock bumper off, stick the ARB on and try to winch out of something only to tear my truck all to hell. Would they have changed the frame from the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen so much that the 2nd gen wouldn't require the reinforcement, but the 3rd gen would?

From what I understand the exported toyotas (to merica) were not the same as the ones sent overseas. Thats why the end caps of the fram need to be reinfoced. the bumper is plenty strong. its the frame that is in need of strength. I do not know the difference between the 2nd and the 3rd gen frams, but I personally would not risk it. Like uboat said, just do it. It will add piece of mind when you are out in the sticks

Just put it on.
http://www.pnw4runners.com/tech/arb_install_info/
End caps are 3rd gen only as stated.
See that 2nd gen in the pic on the site you linked to with the ARB on it?
That be my rig, it just bolts on.
There is one plate underneath that has to be removed in order for the bumper to slide in, and it is very small.
This is very straight forward.

Thanks guys....yup, corey I thought that was your rig. Have you not had any problems with winching with it and not having it reinforced? Other than that I guess I'll just bolt it on....thanks for you help

OP,
As Corey said, just buy it and install it - I had mine on in about 20 minutes (with the help of a buddy due to the weight). Great choice!
