Cool Anouncing the newest member to the family "1996 4Runner Limited 146K miles"

Hey guys, I just got back from Atlanta with my first 4Runner, (I bought it for my wife.)

A green with tan leather interior 1996 4Runner Limited. Rear lockers and sunroof. The 4 wheel drive isn't working but I am going to check the vacuum hoses running from the solinoid probably next week. I know that is a common problem with auto locking hubs from all manufactures. I paid less than Kelley, Black Book and NADA wholesale for the truck (sorry I had to brag to someone.) Just went thru Georgia emission inspection and a safety inspection and came back all clear and after a 3 hour car ride home my wife couldn't be happier.

Any advice for a new Yota owner?

Thanks and see you on the trails

hold onto your wallet. while this place has many money saving tips, this place will bleed you dry too!

if you don't have the service records, visit the soon-to-be-phased-out maintenance section and see the stickied link. while there, there is a link that goes to the toyota maintenance database engine that will tell you what service items you need to do when you plug in your vehicle information + mileage. to me, mainteinance is job #1 when buying a used car. then the rest can follow

since its for the wife, detail it and put a little bow on it

ok pics a comin'!!

I should post pics this evening

I did find one thing that requires immediate attention. The right rear running light isn't working, the brake part does work but not the running light. The left rear light works fine.

Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the 1996 4runner limited so I could run down the problem (I have already replaced the bulb)

Thanks

you should consider getting some new plugs, a fuel filter, and cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body, and possibly new belts.

next, you should consider new coil springs and shocks to get the ride up to par.

congrats on the purchase.

Thanks agian for the input.

If the shocks and coils are original w/146k on 'em you should replace them both.

Shocks for sure but springs might still be ok unless the vehicle is sagging.

You should check to see if you are getting power to the bulb socket using a multi meter first.
If not, then check all the fuses (not likely if other bulbs work, but should check anyway).
Still no go, then start going at it with your multimeter and a wiring diagram.
