Are ADD hubs pretty much just manual hubs that are always locked?

Nope, none whatsover. Another way to consider it is if it really did cut gas mileage the factories probably would use it on everything - they need all the help with CAFE they can get. And it doesn't handle any different either, which I really thought it would. I have forgotten to unlock the hubs and driven for days - noticed nothing.

Wow I learned a lot reading these posts. I have considered switching to manuals to save wear and tear on the CV and CV boots with the lift. Not sure if the cost is justified though. I think the gas milage thing is a huge misconception. Thanks for the awsome info.

I can't tell about gas mileage because I have no records of it from before the swap. But, if you search around enough you can find a set of ASINS cheap. I got my pair from a guy at the local off road shop for $70. I felt like that was a fair price.

I honestly can't see how Fuel mileage can not be affected a little by manual hubs? All one has got to do is lift the front of the vehicle up and spin the wheel in both locked and un lucked configurations and you will feel the difference in force taken to turn the wheels. Again it not a huge difference but it is there.
But as stated above the best thing that comes with manual hubs is the fact that you save your CV boots and in turn save money!! this is even more true if you have your T-Bars cranked up.
I love being able to lock up before I get to the nasty and then just drop it into 4x4 and never have to get out!
Manual HUBS = MUST DO MOD for anybody with ADD or Auto hubs.

Out of sync can do it too. Be sure the yokes at both ends are in the same plane. If one is rotated relative to the other you will eat Ujoints.
