$8 Front Mud Flaps

After removing my running boards, I needed mudflaps, bad. However, being the frugal person that I am, I did not want to spend $75 at the dealer for front mud flaps.

I found an excellent alternative. At Pep Boys, they sell mudflaps for $8 including tax. They are called "Groboski Long Life Duraflex Splash Guards."

There are slight modifications that need to be done, and you have to have a good eye to get them on straight. All you need is a hacksaw or x-acto knife, a drill, and a little patience. The existing bolts are used to hold them on. If you dont cut the flaps, they will rub.

Picture #1:

This is what they look like installed.

Picture #2:

Here is what they look like from the side.

Picture #3:

This picture will give you a good idea as to what the cut should look like. Again, if you dont cut them like this, they will rub when you turn.

For $8 and a 1/2 hour worth of work, I have what I consider good looking front flaps. The install is a breeze, and once you get one flap correctly cut and the holes drilled, you can use that flap as a template for the other flap.

Damn! That really works nicely! They look a lot like the Tacoma flaps. Good job! It does pay to be frugal!

They look really good, I have been thinking about the same thing for my 2000. I have the factory fender flares on it so I am not sure how that will change things, but it gives me some ideas.

Thanks

That turned out really well. I love being frugal.

$75 for a pair of mudflaps that were probably made in China is an outrage. How can that possibly be justified? Who pays that much for them? I'd love to go on a 2000 word rampage about economics but i'll spare you and my keyboard.

Man, what a deal. $6.99, came to $7.57 with tax. Instead of the plain ones, I went with the ones that say 4X4 on them. They were the same price, and look pretty close to Taco mud flaps!

Incidentally, I did notice that Pep Boys had custom molded flaps, similar to what JA lists in his write up. Dealer charges $75, these were $29.99 for the set. They had different models based on your vehicle.

WOW $8.00 is well within my budget.

The wife just said she didn't care what I did to the
4Runner as long as I don't put flames down the
side.

I think I will pull the running boards. Win the Stubbs.
New mud flaps. Deckplate mod. ISR mod. Electric Fan.
Super Charger. OME Lift. New Tires.

Wait A Minute..................................where is the money coming
from?????

Anyone want to buy a 2000 Avalon. She'll never notice it is
gone!!!!!!

Sorry I got carried away.

Sounds like I will be going to Autozone tomorrow, we don't have a Pep Boys around here.

We only have Autozone and O'Reilly...oh yeah, and Wal-Mart...jk.

I'll let ya know what I find at Autozone and I can see how they compare!

Thanks all, looks like I will be rippin off the boards here soon!

JAOS is WAYY overpriced...

OBVIOUSLY!!

I haven't gotten the boards off yet, haven't had time. I might do it eventually but I'm not gonna be doing any serious off-roading for a while yet anyway.

400 bucks for freakin MUD FLAPS????

LMAO

Looks great man! I've got to do it too, and I was wondering if you made a cardbaord template or anything similar for the cut?
