2nd Gen lift Question

Alright, so I'm sick of the stock look. I like to wheel but I don't go enough to shell out over a grand for a 4" kit. What's a good way to get around 4" and still do well off-road. Thanks for your help. Oh yeah I'm new, so how are you guys doing? This will be on a 93 4runner.

Welcome to the forum.

If you just want height and have a manual tranny, a body lift is a fairly inexpensive way to add 1-2" w/o affecting ride quality (except slightly higher COB). Add to the bodylift some new rear coils or coil spacers and a T-bar crank up front and you could get maybe 3.5" total for under $300. Of course, a T-bar crank will stiffen the front suspension, limiting your offroad articulation, but its inexpensive and lots of people do it. You might also look into some 1" balljoint spacers for the front rather than a T-bar crank.

welcome

Hey man, welcome. If you're really wanting a tall look for under a thousand, I can get you a Superlift 4-5" kit for like $750 complete. I just installed one on my 4runner. I have a '91 model so it will be the exact same kit. I love the results. ,Louis

What are your goals? Do you want just the look or are you building up for wheeling? If wheeling, what kind of wheeling? Rockcrawling, mud, trailriding etc.

For rockcrawling and general difficult trailriding you'll want to keep your CG as low as possible so you don't flop. With this in mind my suggestion is to add a 1inch body lift, crank the Tbars, cut the plastic piece inside the front fender, and do a 1.5 inch downey coil. That's cheap, you'll fit 33s and you can take harder lines without flopping. Through in some lockers later and you'll be unstoppable.

For mud I'd guess you want higher to keep everything from submerging.

If it's just for looks, then do anything you want.

Oh, and do a search, you'll find way more info than in this thread alone.

Type "IFS Lift" into the search if you would like some extra reading.

[elitest gearhed]
If you only want to look the part, a 3" bodylift and assorted hassles will get you on 35's for the street. Fender trimming, mudflap removal and the like will get it trailworthy.

For $75 you can get a 4Crawler bodylift, I would advise an inch. Then add $70 for front air shocks. Another $70 for new rear shocks and $20 for Cruiser coils plus $40 for a panhard drop bracket. Around $300 for brakelines, rivets, etc you can have adequate room for 33's, keep a low COG and wheel it like a bugger.

I chose the latter.

Looks like this.

I run a 3 inch body lift and 2 inch rear coil. I turned the torsion Bars up about .75 inch to level the truck out. Looking the part is not the case with a bodylift. If you do a suspension your axles still sit in the same place. The front is droped anyway and the rear axle is in the same place. I did the 3 inch body, 2 inch coil, and 4 new shocks for less than $500. I am running a 35 Good year MTR on a 8 inch wheel with no problems. With basic offroading I have had no rubs on anything. Note you will loose highway power with a bigger tire.

Also with the new coils and shocks the ride quality is pretty good. And is no more top heavy than a standard suspension lift.
