22R California carburetor differences

22R California carburetor differences
Someone has a carburetor that they want to sell me for $25. It is off of a 1986 and my truck is a 1987, so I would assume that it is the same. Will it work on my truck if it is not from a California truck? I have heard that there are a different number of vaccuum ports on a California truck than others. Does anyone know the specifics about them?

the fed version and CA version are differnt.. you might need to plug up some vacuum lines on tour truck as the fed carb wont use them... watch out though, when it comes time for smog, it may not pass.... some smog inspectors are very picky with the visual inspection and will notice things that are plugged off

Will I be able to put a tee in the vaccuum lines to split them or do each of the extra ports have different amounts vaccuum at different times? Even though my county does not have regular smog checks, I would rather not plug them because I have heard that they might be changing that law.

Not up here in Tuolumne county. I think Calaveras and one or two other neighboring counties do not do it either. They check smog only if when a vehicle is sold, unless it is older than 30 years, a diesel, or sold between family. I would not be suprised if they changed that law soon.

I have never had my truck smogged. My mom owned it since 1995 and my dad owned it since either 1988 or 1989 before they divorced. I believe they ever got it smogged, either. There is a chance my dad had it smogged when he bought it, but it only had 16,000 miles on it, so I would doubt it. I think I learned in some government class that smaller governments over ride bigger ones.

i was just looking around the net, i guess maybe you dont have it up their... they are starting to get mroe strict on it though.... as a lto of the new laws went in effect on 1-1-05
hopefully you dont move to anywhere that its required.... anywyas, honestly i would jsut say get the regualr CA carb... that way you ownt be releasing any extra crap into the air we dont need....

hey seriously, only do it just becasue its the right thing to do, not becasue some punk lkid on the yotaboard gave you crap about it... it seems more and more these days that people just dont care about the environment anymore..... i mean im sure we will still ahve air after im dead, but it jsut seems that as much as the govt interfers with stuff, there is a reason for it to....

I will do it because it is right. Thats why I was asking about splitting the lines. Even though I do not need to smog, my truck still has all of the smog equipment and I intend keep it that way.

im actually not sure about splitting the lines.... i would think that differnt vacuum lines pic up differnt things... there is a huge line on my carb, right next to a small line... i wouldnt think to splice those to together as there is probably a reason as why one is bigger

That big line probably goes to your brake booster or your pcv. I live in WA and turned my CA truck into a Canadian vacuum system because someone ells cut a lot out.
