2000 4runner mudflap questions...
As soon as I got my 2000 4runner home last August, I took the running boards off. Now that wetter weather is here, I can see I need to get some kind of front mudflaps.
Toyota offered plastic flaps that fit with and matched the black fender flares on this vintage 4runner; part #'s 00547-35966DF and 00547-35961PF (right and left) superceded by PT413-35966DF and PT413-35966PF. But these seem to now be unavailable from dealers. Here's a couple of pics:
Can anyone tell me if these Toyota flaps ever came stock instead of the running boards? In other words, were 4runners sold as pictured? If so, it might be worth it for me to check with auto recyclers.
If I go with aftermarket mudflaps, can anyone suggest a good brand or type?

I don't know about those mudflaps as stock, but I would recommend whatever you use that they are flexible. My cousins nissan titan has ridgid mudflaps, and he caught one on a small treestump and bent his quarter panel.

Mine truck had the running board delete option and the flaps were installed by the dealer when my truck was purchased by the original owner.
Here's is the page from Conicelli's Toyota parts site and these should be the front flaps but I'd call them also just to be sure and actual availability.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Unless I can find a pair of the factory ones for cheap, I will probably look into aftermarket ones. I have heard elsewhere that the stiff factory ones load up with ice and snow pretty bad, and also that they can break off or bend the fenders/body panels if you catch one on a stump or rock, as noted by 4runnermt.

I think NAPA or Autozone has cheap generic ones for $10 or so that should do the job. They won't look as nice as the OEM ones, but during the winter time, who cares?

I have trim-colored flares, but my mud flaps are black as well. As a side question, does anyone know if color-matching to the flares was an option or was black the only color? I've seen flaps color matched to the flares but they may have been custom.

They do load up with ice but a swift kick kncks it out but they do put stress on the rest of the flare when caught on somehting but they've been holding up pretty well to off road abuse but do need a good tightening once a year.
Flat rubber that's flexible is better for a mud flap tho' but OEM does look good on the street in the summer.
Toyota only offered the mudflaps for the plastic skinny black flares and didn't intend on Limited owners removing their boards so they never made any for those bigger flares.

I'm in the same boat so this post answers my question too. The boards are gone on mine too, but the PO cut about two inches off the board so it extended down....the problem is the right side fell/ripped off.
I called Conicelli's and the parts guy said that is an old illustration and their online catalog will be updated after the first of the year. He said the current manual backed up what was said above, the parts were discontinued.

Yep,specialty parts are disappearing as the gen ages and the aftermarket won't produce something that really doesn't have a big demand for. Best bet is junkyards or somebody that wants to swap on running boards that has the flaps.
