We may have hit a big snag. I had a friend to come over and see what is causing to pull it to the side. He found 3 areas that are tweaked on it. It could go to a frame shop and get fixed. I am going to see what it will cost for a frame shop to fix it. It could put it beyond economical cost. Another option I am going to look at is see if I can find just an extra cab two wheel drive frame and move everything over to it. I would be happy with a bare bones frame and cab. I could actually use it as a work truck.

Still up in the air as what is going to happen to this truck. I really dont want to part it out. I am not disappointed in getting this truck as Justin has learned a lot on it and I can always use the motor. I might stick this motor in the 86. Justin wants it and mom is going to let Hunter have the 88. I have a fully loaded 87 that looks bad but is really solid and I have most everything for it. I will eventually get on it someday.

We did get the core support on and started fitting the fenders.

Thanks flg8r22... I cant believe how the last 20-30 years has gone by. 2007 seems like yesterday to me. We keep telling the kids we were once their age but I dont think they believe us. They seem to think we were born at 40 something. I will always be wrenching on something. Retiring and then sitting on my back side just isnt for me. Looking back, I really have enjoyed some of the trucks I have completed. I have a hundred more builds I want to do. One of my favorite trucks is the grill style I have only a short wide bed standard cab. Not practical for me, but I do eventually make a short bed out of a long bed just for the challenge. My welding skills have a long ways to go for that.

The guy came and got my motor. I use my truck funds for truck parts or tools. I spent quite a bit getting my bottle, wire, nozzles, gloves, mask. and some other odds and ends. The smallest wire I could get was .023, you would not think .07 would make much of a difference but I guess it does. I am going to order some floor pans for the 76 and as soon as we get descent enough at welding, we are going to do the floor pans. How ever the direction of the wreck goes, it has still been a good learning experience for Justin and I have enjoyed working on it.

Getting my welding things together a little at a time. Waiting on Justin to get home to read the directions on getting it set up. ( I am in denial of needing glasses, lol) I got the large roll of wire and Justin knows I was getting the things today and he is wanting to try to do some more welding on the Toyota when he gets home from school.

I talked to my local body shop today and we have the two wheel going to have the frame looked at. It is $55 an hour to have it straightened and figure 2-3 hours worth of work. It will take more time to get it chained down so as they can pull on the frame. He said he would want the fender and core support and would work in help getting those aligned for me as well. He has a roll back truck and will come and get for me. I wont have to drive it or haul there so was happy to hear that.

My next few days off, I am going to see what all I can fix on the 2 wheel drive that tends to get neglected or over looked. I still need to finish the ventilation system and if the weather is good enough, I will give the truck a good cleaning. Will have to wait and see what the weather does. We have had a very unusual warm winter so I am hoping I catch a break this week.

Justin and me took the old hood and cut some slits in it and then practiced stitch welding the slits. I thought I did really well and he did pretty good himself. I am going to stop by Harbor Freight in the morning and get a Welding Spoon for welding in the holes and think it would help on welding the slits up. I am going to order some floor pans for my 76 in the next few days and we are going to get lots of practice on stitch welding the floor pans in on the 76.

Hello Shaun, on the first gen runner it will be on the metal tag on the fire wall under the hood. On a second gen runner, I am almost positive that it is on a paper label on the drivers door jam that is protected by laminent. Below is the codes.

I think the reason the third opening does not have the screen is so that whatever gets in through the cowl grill will get washed down and come out of the drain in that corner. However, I'm thinking why not keep leaves/debris rom coming into the cowl in the first place?
I haven't done this yet, but I plan to put this gutter screen (plastic with mesh) right behind (under) the cowl grill. Brown version should look good on darker color trucks. Black even better. Brainstorming how to hold it in place... maybe just use black cable tie to the cowl grill, or stick cable tie holder under cowl and cable tie from that for better aesthetics.

Hello Mark...I had looked at the 187 220 volt welder. I figure it is going to be a while before my welding gets good enough to get to that heavy of welding. My learning to weld is going slower then I would like but it is coming along.

Hello hab... I got side tracked and hope to send the truck to the frame shop next week if all goes well. I need to get back on it and get this truck done so I can get onto my 76 truck. I havent got to work on it in a while and my welding is good enough to do the floor pans and Justin and me both are ready to get started on that.

Thanks Ray.. That would work, just anything to keep the debris out of them. Dirty cowls are not just an issue for these trucks but I see it on other models as well.

We sold our big camper. It was nice to have but unless using it for vacation, it was to big for weekend use or for traveling. Never thought I would want to go back to a pop up camper but I really regret selling our old pop up camper so we got us another pop up. Got it set up and will be going thru it and get it stocked up with blankets, pillows, coffee pot... things that we do not want to have to keep dragging out of the house. It is nice to have everything in it so all we have to get is food for traveling.

While we were out looking for a pop up camper. I did spend a lot of time looking at some of the 5th wheel campers that I am going to get when I retire and it wont have any extra beds for the kids, lol. I still have a few years before I get a 5th wheel as I have to get the 76 restored and set up to pull a 5th wheel. I only have plans to pull it when I am going to be out for a month at a time. No way I really want to pull a 5th wheel for weekend use.

Got the pop up home and getting it stocked up.

I am hoping to get the 2 wheel drive into the frame shop next week if everything goes as planned. I have not been in the shop lately but am ready to get back out there. We have been in freezing tempertures one day and 70s the next day. Been getting spring fever. Starting to get the boat out and ready and it is taking some time to get it up and going.

Hunter broke his handle bars on his bike and while I was sleeping Justin went out and fired up the welder and got the handle bar fixed for him. May not be professional quality but Hunter was happy with the fix. I have not seen the weld just yet but apparently the weld is still working. Was glad to see him go out and get the weld done on his own.

The owner of my 85 was in town. He came down to see his brother and to get some more of his house hold furniture to take back to New York. I did see a small scratch in the bed. The picture I had of it did not turn out but he did have it loaded down and pulling a trailer. It has the Old Man Emu springs on it and it was sagging in the rear. I could tell he had it loaded down heavy for it to sag like that. He really likes the truck so was glad to hear of that. I did enjoy seeing it and at times do miss it but the gas mileage was disappointing to me on it.

I have not been in the shop lately as been busy with other things. We have been showing the kiddos things that are in a fairly local area to us on long weekends and then on vacations have been going quite a bit further out. We know that their days of hanging out with mom and dad is not going to be a cool thing in their book and are winding down quick. This time we took them to the Oklahoma City Memorial. Misty had been wanting to see it for quite a while.

The water pool used to be a city street that went thru the block. They blocked it off and made the street a memorial pool. On each end of the pool is 9:01 and 9:03. 9:02 is when the bomb went off.

The closer view is the chairs. The smaller chair is for the kids that passed.


This building was damaged and the windows have been blocked in as they are to show the damage. The building is now a museum showing the history of it. Of course the day we went on President, the roof had a leak and they had that part closed.\

Went to Toby Keiths Resturaunt. He had Ford Truck beds with the tail gates as benches. Wish I would of gotten a picture of those.

Got some new tires for the front end and the tags are due on the 88. Went to start the project truck and now it wont start, grrr. It was running fine when I last messed with it so will need to see what is up with it. I was hoping to pull it out and install the tires on the 88 but since it would not start, I was able to push it far enough into the shop to swap tires.

I should have it legal by the end of the day.

Yesterday was 85 degrees and today we are in the low 40s. Nice weather had me busy on my daily drivers and the project truck. Project truck had a fuel issue and is to go to the frame shop today or Monday, when ever the frame shop gets his tow truck freed up. I dont want to mess with getting it to his shop. He will also haul it back for me. Changed all of the oils in the daily drivers, some minor repairs, getting tires on the 88, getting it tagged, and taxes paid up on it and seems like I did some other things that I cant think of right off, I got quite a bit done. You can spend a small fortune just keeping them mechanically in great shape. Thinking of just getting a horse instead. lol

I try to off set my sticker to see how many times I have renewed my tags and I could see 4 or 5 different colors behind the new sticker. Missouri started allowing 2 year stickers a few years ago. The state inspector was surprised to see the 88 had 322225 miles on its odometer. We have put quite a few miles on it since owning it. I got an AC compressor and still have not installed it. The heat yesterday may be moving that up the list real quick.

Hello Tony, your runner looks great. That is a clean looking truck. My brats are getting the 88 and the 86 for them. I have a loaded 87 that is going to need a complete restore and I am keeping it for myself.

ohh had to replace a tire today with a used one it was developing a bubble over an inch high bump over 1/5th the tire had steering wheel goin nuts sad thing was it had the best tread of all my tires :-(
gona have to break down an get new tires one at a time
the medical bills an such has ruined my credit so its one at a time or not at all :-/
