Ladies and Gents...thread from the dead (seriously, no pun intended). A few updates, for those of you who are still around from my father's posts, he started and I ended up finishing the 89 4Runner trans swap. Ran and drove awesome, ended up having a good friend of mine drive it (the previous owner) and had it on the road since last Christmas.
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, someone struck it head on going about 80 (and the truck was sitting still, waiting to turn). Good news is that he walked away with a slight concussion, I tell you, they don't build them like they used to. But the truck is destroyed, every body mount broke and the body shifted. Frame is bent, etc...
Good news is, is that now I have a motor to put back into the 87 pickup (which I have done nothing with). I remember the old man saying if it had a 22RE, he wouldn't have taken the motor out. Welp....I now have a 22RE to swap into the pickup. No idea when this will take place, but it relieves the big question mark on what motor was going into this truck. Ill post pics of the 4 Runner soon. I don't usually surf the forums, but I figured to give the community an update!!
PS, Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, the above posts meant a lot.

Glad to hear you got it on the road and did get to enjoy it for a while. Sorry to hear it got totaled. At least you can still have the motor to continue with your dads interest. Glad to hear of the update.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention. Ive decided not to go with the 4.3 v6. I was tooling around with a few VW motors (TDI, Audi 2.2 5cyl, Vw 2.5 5 cyl), but the easiest and cheapest route, I think, will be the 22RE. No special mounts, no special adapters, already have the driveshafts, so pretty much a drop and go. The truck is a roller, it needs the rear shock mounts welded in, some buttoning up on the bed bob and the rear frame.
