Talking 01mudslinger's 1985 Pickup Build-Up Thread

Ok guys, ive been around on here a couple months now, introduced myself and told yall my plans for my 85. Well since then i have started this project so here is where i plan to keep updates and hopefully get advice and help when i need it. So once again here are my plans

I have a 85 single cab with carbed 22R and a bad rod bearing, 8" lift, 5.29 gears, detroits front and rear. Body and cab is rough

I also have a 85 extended cab 22RE truck with a 22R motor also bad rod bearing. frame rotted, and 1st. Gen. Bed n the back. UGLY

I have already bought a new crank, rod and main bearings, thrust washers, timing chain kit, and oil pump, also rings to rebuild the motor, im gonna put the extended cab on the regular cab frame via removing front bed mounts and adding body mounts in correct position. then im gonna cut another bed and shorten the front to fit and probably bob the back also at the spring hangers, leaving aproximately a 4ft. bed. im also gonna make the 22R a 22RE since i already have the parts to do so.

in the end i will have a Extended Cab 22RE, Bobbed Bed, IFS Rear Axle, Spacers up front, 8" of lift, 5.29's, detroits front and rear, and 38.5x11 boggers. nice lil mud truck i hope.

We started sunday after lunch and already have the motor out, cab and bed off the truck, and are in the process of cleaning the inside of the frame out (mud and Dirt) then sealing in all the holes to keep everything out.

1 Qtn. i have right now, is where can i get an oil pressure guage to go inside the truck instead of a light? I will get some pictures put up of the progress maybe tomorrow evening. So tell me what you guys think of my plans. Im interested in hearing opinions and suggestions.

don't lift it so high. Keep you COG lower and trim for tire clearance. the 38's, 5.29's and lockers are good. You are gonna break stock axles..Add longfields to you list.

and upload pics to a free service like photobucket.com and copy and paste the [img] into your posts. you can't start a thread like this with out build pics...

alright, we are making really good progress, not so much this weekend, more drinking than working. but since last sunday we have the motor on engine stand, old cab and body off, frame completely cleaned out and sealed off, cab ready to come off other truck, and tomorrow evening probably get that off. here are a few pictures of the progress...

Well the extended cab is now been cleaned out and sprayed with rubberized undercoating instead of carpet, off truck and will go on the frame tomorrow hopefully weather permitting. Still looking for a answer about a oil pressure gauge from somebody?

Subscribed! I would love to do something similar to this. I like the idea of bobbing both ends of the bed to get the extra room of the extended cab but the shorter wheel base of the standard cab. Good luck and take LOTS of pictures!

go to your local auto parts store and get an oil pressure gauge..you'll have to change out the sending unit though..so grab one off of a truck that has a factory oil pressure gauge..or buy a new one

aight, here are the pics with the Xcab on there, there aint no doors hood or fenders so it aint pretty yet, haha, they off for paint, and in this pictures we hadnt got it completely bolted down. We also now have the dash taken out in order to put in a different wire harness off a spare EFI truck my buddy had since the other one had been chopped up in places after further inspection.
im gonna have to change springs i believe to get it lower, its way to tall, it has 32's on it now in the pictures and is taller than my buddies with 36's

ok now for a lil update... Fenders, hood and doors are painted. rust spots in the rear corner of cab are now gone and one part of the floor pan was also fixed. Also picked up a tube winch bumper with stinger and got my 38.5x11 Boggers. Hopefully should have interior put back together and rest of cab painted and doors and fenders back on by the end of the week.

Whats up. Been awhile since i been on here figured id post some up to date pics of my yota build. Its still not done but wheelable which ive been doing alot of. The truck goes awesome.

Here are the specs as of now...
85 yota, Xcab swap, Rebuilt 22r converted to EFI, Header, 5.29's, Detroits front and rear, 38x11 Boggers, frame cut at shackles. Only things left really to do are bob the bed at both ends and put bumpers and winch on.

Here are some current pictures...
