Anyone running the Michelin LTX AT2?
Im gonna be needing new tires and im just wondering if anyone is running the Michelin LTX AT2 and if they are any good? I have also looked at the Bridgestone Revo 2's but im worried about the tread life and have never been a big fan of Bridgestone or Firestone but willing to give them a try if they are as good as the reviews on Tirerack say they are. I will be 90% on pavement and 10% offroad but nothing hardcore. Thx for the help

I'm running 285/75r16 Michelin LTX AT2 and so far so good. Wet traction on road is almost as good as the LTX M/S. Haven't had a chance to do much off road beyond some wet and some dry fire roads and they were fine there. Didn't have any trouble with the little bits of snow we had over the winter. You can hear the tread squirm on dry pavement a little with the windows open, but for an AT pretty quiet. The only thing I don't like about them (and the LTX M/S) is that they love to pick up gravel and fling it at the truck. I had the LTX M/S on the truck for around 85,000 miles and did light wheeling with them in Colorado and Utah....I'm hoping for similar from the A/T's.

I had thought about the BF AT KO's aswell but was worried about there wet pavement performance as im in Vancouver and we get plenty of rain and also im not wanting to kill my mileage with a heavy tire. Thats why I had looked at the Michelin or the Bridgestone but I do know the BFG's kick butt thats why everyone is running them.

Check out the Cooper Discoverer ST's.. They're an all terrain tire. I've had mine a little over a year and around 20k miles and still have plenty of tread left.
They've seen sand, mud, snow, dirt, and street and have performed on all.
Pretty quiet at high speeds, too.

Honestly man, go with cheap. Personally l like the kumho road venture AT for an all terrain tire. They're super cheap, last damn near forever, quiet, and ride real nice. My 31x10.50x15's were about $100 each shipped, I got about 30k out of them over 2 years on my nissan, and then went with a set of 33's on my toyota. My buddy bought all 4 of them from me for like $100 when I sold the nissan, they still had about 50% tread left on them, give or take. For the price, you can almost buy 2 sets of the kumho's for the price of one set of the michelin's. And honestly, I've installed a bunch of sets of michelins and I'm really not impressed.

take a kumho and throw the sidewall up against a rock and your in trouble. same with the geolanders.. both are junk when it comes to taking abuse off road. I have no experiance with the michelin AT2;s but used to run the LTX's on my work truck, I was impressed by everything except the price..

Thats whats on my truck now is the LTX MS and they have been great but im looking for something that looks a bit more aggresive as I just bought some new wheels and would like some more aggressive tires for them without killing my mileage so thats why i have been looking at the Michelin and the Bridgestone and had also thought about the BFG's but they are quite heavy and everyone has them.

What they look like mounted, LT285/75r16- the blue one:
The other will be getting Michelins soon, it came with something else.
I've been using Michelin LTX M/S for 10 years now on 3 different SUVs and feel they are worth the price, especially given the miles I ran them that they still had traction. So far (since 11/09) I am happy with the LTX A/T other than the gravel issue, though the M/S did the same thing so you prolly know what I'm talking about.
I also like the BFG A/T and ran them years ago but since I'm at least 90% DD I felt the Michelin was the better choice. Time will tell for sure, but so far so good. My mileage drop is negligible and came along with bigger tires/lift/basket- I keep track on fueleconomy.gov.
Hopefully more Michelin A/T owners or previous owners will chime in so you get more than just a couple of experienced opinions.

I appreciate the great response Habanero and the pics of them on the truck. Its hard even to find any pics of the AT2"s mounted on a vehicle. Do you have any pics of the tires up close? I understand about the gravel issue with LTX's and I assume its abut the same with AT 2's. Anyone else have any input on them?

Thx for the pics. The tires look pretty good. I was wondering how they would look on a Toyota. You have a couple of nice Yotas there in the previous pics. Thx for the help Habanero you are a good man.

Plus, they look a lot better than the michelin's as well, especially mounted on the truck. It's a pretty aggressive All Terrain tire, but still rides really nice
Edit: stay away from the kumho mud terrain tires though... they suck balls.

I ran them on the 4runner for a short time after the BFG all terrain's but before the swampers or the pro comps... (I've had a lot of different tires...) here's a picture before lift, 15x8 wheels, 31x10.50 tires (After about 30k miles... Just righ after I took the nissan picture). I only had them on the 4runner for about 2-3 weeks before I got something that suited my needs a bit better

Thx for the reply. I think im leaning towards the Revo 2's at this point and now the size is what im wondering about. The stock tire is a 225/75 15 and I have some new aftermarket 16 inch rims and want to go with a bigger tire so i was thinking the 245/70 16 or maybe the 255/70 16 but i dont want to have any issues regarding rubbing. Will the 255's fit without any issues?

You should be able to fit a 265/70/16 without any issues, and depending on the backspacing you could probably fit a 285/75/16. a 265/70/16 is around a 31x10.50 tire (which some of those trucks came with stock) and a 285/75/16 would be almost a 33x11.50x15. Again depending on backspacing you may or may not run into rubbing issues with that, but the 265/70/16 should be no issue at all.
