I've heard of people doing it this way. What I did was hook the supply line from the mech pump to the return line on the stock fuel pump bracket. Its the one with the longest tube going into the tank. Works great.

It does NOT have power going to it. My Jeep started off with a carb. I just put a in line pump where the original fuel filter was. It'll just pull fuel through the original pump, even though its not working. My Toyota I just used the return line originally but you can't use all the fuel in the tank that way because the return doesn't run all the way to the bottom of the tank.

Mine works like it did before. I picked the longest metal pipe on the bracket and hooked that line to my mech pump. Works just like before, low fuel light comes on before it runs out of gas.

ok so i fulled the unit on the tank and removed the pump. i thought i should use the largest tube because it's a V8. usually chevy has a 3/8 in line to the mech pump. i then extended the pump tube into the bottom of the tank. i think i am pulling good fuel now.
i still sputter and backfire when i get out on the road!!!!!!!
i have a small napa air cleaner. is that the issue. not enough CFM.
when i take the air cleaner off and hit the road she drives perfect. i guess it is time to cut a bigger hole in the hood and run a real mans(bigger) filter.
does any of the above seam correct??

to small of an air cleaner shouldn't make it pop and backfire. it would just have less power.
is the carb tuned?
whats the timing at?
how built is the motor?
a mildly built 350 should run fine with a small like 8" air cleaner as long as its clean. how big is the one you have?

im running an 8in cleaner right now.
i believe my timing was set a 8 dregrees past by the builder.
I have been running this setup for two years now with no problems.
Recently this heitation, stall backfire started.
SO i replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs.
today while warming the truck up for work i noticed that the Choke linkage is a little sloppy. When i rev it up the linkage rattles back to choke position. slightly, but i think just enough to choke her out.
i adjusted the choke tension so it doesn't rattle.
Now it seams like the choke is too tight for cold starting, but i will find out tomorrow when i go to start it!!!!
thanks for the trouble shooting guys. i don't think it is a timing issue because when the truck dies i can start it right back up instantly.
i am running a msd system and msd said that they run this same system in there street trucks all the time with no problems.
whenever i romp on this thing, it wants more, but it doesn't like to be driven nicely!!!! huh.
