Where to buy a diesel to replace my 20R

I'm looking for a used diesel to replace my current 20R in my 80 pickup.
Anyone have suggestions on where to buy a decent quality JDM motor.
2LTE or something like that.
Any help is appreciated.

thanks

Finding a JDM diesel engine that has everything and hasn't been beat to within centimeters of death might be a tough go.

Have you considered a VW diesel? They seem to be a popular option and there are a few threads dedicated to them. I know it might take some fab work, but in the end it might be cheaper and easier.

Just my 2 cents.

The 2-LT may not quite be the motor you want to drive daily. HG issues abound as they do on most boosted/blown Toyota motors, and they're hardly the power houses that most diesel's are.

VW's diesel's are just too small for our trucks. I know some have done it, but having ALOT of experience with every concivable motor VW has ever produced, Petrol or Diesel, I say keep it Toyota.

Honestly, the engine you WANT is either a 1KZ-T or the D4D, the !kz will be far easier to find. Try Jarco Inc. THey'll get a line on a half cut. Be warned, I looked REAL hard at doing this as, even now with my new motor, I WANT a diesel... That said, it's not as simple a swap as the 3.4 is or even the 2.7 3RZ Taco 4Cyl (wich might just be the best choice ofr older Toy's)

Most of the 1KZ's are in front of Auto's. Maybe alright for you, but it was a deal breaker for me. If you go this route and want a 5 spd, you're looking for an R151/150 Tranny.

For me this all ended up being cost prohibitive. And again, looking back at the power I don't get out of the 22RE in these heavy little buggers, I should have done the 3RZ swap or even the 3.4.

Cheers

Dave

I like my 2lte also. I have had no problems with it. Yeah it might be a little sulggish, but the power is amazing.

I have a 2lte that pulled from my surf that was written off due to a rear ender. Has everything to go with it. bellhousing and torque converter as well, if your wanting to go with an auto.
the engine has had an Allhead 3l head and high flow water pump put in, new injector pump put in 1500km or so ago.
the engine has 175,000km on it.

Go Mercedes, it's the cheapest, parts are readily available and is the most reliable of all the available engines. Plus you won't be disappointed in the power.

FYI - this thread hasn't had any activity for over 3.5 years.

Gee, I didn't know there was a time limit on threads? Does that mean I cant read old books and magazines too? Thanks for pointing out the date too, I was born without the ability to understand numbers.

This may be an old thread but newbies like me can really use the info.
Anyway, I am considering swapping out my tired 3VZ-E V6 in favor of a JDM 1KZ-TE turbo diesel. Does anyone know what the going rate is for the labor?

Also, I like the MBZ idea because I am very happy with my 3.2L CDI. What MBZ diesel would fit best into my '95 Runner? Is it a pricey endeavour?
