I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner with the 3.4L in it. To me diesels are the way to go and I question why we even have gasoline engines anymore, but anyway, I want to swap my 3.4l with the 1KZ-TE which is toyotas 3.0 turbo diesel in te overseas hilux. I found the motor and transmission with the ecu for about 3200 shipped to my door. Being a diesel freak, I know there's more to a motor swap than that, so can anyone direct me to the additional parts I will need to be on the lookout for? It would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious if you were able to figure it out? I've been looking at a JDM 1KZ-TE for my 99 Tacoma but haven't found a whole lot of help especially around the potentially different wiring.

You will need to look out for the fuel filter and possibly replace the fuel lines as well. Other than that the standard woes with the oil pan clearance, engine mounts, spedometer and wiring, etc.. I believe the radiator may need have clearance or other issues with the location of the hoses?

I would recommend getting the exact model number and using that in toyodiy.com to find the partnums of parts you may need when the time comes.

Other than that you gotta just dive in and get the engine started; if you can do that before putting into your rig it will save some stress; especially if you have an odbii reader.
