A swap of a different kind.
Before I start a quick background on the motor I'm talking about. My dad has a 1989 toyta pick up that he wrecked that has a 3.0 and a 5speed with 4.56 gears and 31x11.50 on 15x8's.He started parting it out yesterday and is letting me have first pick on anything I want.So my question is could I use the engine and mounts, trans and mounts, and transfercase and mounts For a swap into a 1st gen pick up?I figured since its rebuilt with 50k on the clock and the head recall was done at the same time and the truck is lighter than the '89 it should be semi spirited and reliable in the truck. No mods have been done to the motor but I will be doing some porting and tuneing to it with a tarus fan swap. This is pure fantasy at the moment but I think I might have found a use for all the cheap 3.0's out there.

I don't know a whole lot about the 3.0 but haven't heard many good things about it. I'd stick with the 22r if I were you. Not saying you shouldn't do it. Just my personal opinion.

I like the 20r,22r,22re,22rte,etc,etc. but I don't like the power to weight ratio (the same thing is wrong with the 3.0 in the newer pick ups and runners). So if you put in a lighter weight truck like the 1st gens and tune it right with the taurus fan it should get up and go.Im not sure of these weights but I believe that the pickups with the 3.0 weigh in at a hefty 3600lbs the runners with the 3.0 weigh in at 4000lbs this compared to truck that weighs in at 3200lbs (1st gen).

even though i had good luck with my 3.0 in my old truck, i would never spend the time or money putting one into another truck. if you wanna do a swap pick a different motor you can do better with
in the end it still has 150 hp if your lucky

the 2.7 will be a bit more money (dont know any exact figures) but you will be much happier with it. right now im looking into dropping a 7mge into me 86 runner, another good choice over the 3.0

go with a 5.0 HO. I am doing it right now and Picked up a whole lincoln Mark VII for $500 on Craigslist. Everything is there and you can even use the trans if you want an auto. Look up on Pirate4x4 for "Brandon" he put a 302 in his 82 pickup. sweet power.

I was talking with my dad last night on the phone and we came up with this.Taking the 22r or 20r and puttting 22rte topend on it (fuel injection, throttle body,intake,etc,etc.).But no turbo and add oversize valves and a cam while porting the intake and exhaust runners, shaving the head, port the intake manifold, and boreing the throttle body and a 82 supra afm.On the bottom end bore it .30 over with 9:5.1 compresion pistons.Along with added fuel comsumption add a 22rte fuel pump.
Came across some info and the 22rte radiator should be used but you need atleast a 3in body lift to clear it.Taurus fan swap should be done to.
